Year 3 Fractions

Today we have been learning about fractions and have learnt some new key words. Can you tell me:

1. What is a unit fraction?

2. What is the numerator?

3. What is a denominator?

Can you tell me what fraction of the shapes below is shaded?

Why is the circle not a half?

Challenge:

How many different ways can you show a quarter of a shape? Get some paper and show your teacher.

  1. A unit fraction always have to be a one.
A denominator is in the down stairs.
A numerator is a number that you have to count.

    1. the first one is a whole.
    2. 1/4-circle
    3. 4/8-dimand
    4. 1/4- octigon

  2. 1. A unit fraction is a fraction with a numerator equal to 1.

    2. A numerator is a number that appears on top of a fraction; showing how many parts we have.

    3. A denominator is the bottom number of a fraction showing how many equal parts the item is divided into.

    Triangle: 1/1
    Circle: 3/8
    Octagon: 1/4
    Diamond: 4/8

A quarter is one of four equal. It is written as 1/4.

  3. Fractions

An unit fraction is only 1.
An numerator is the top number in an fraction equation.
An denomator is the number at the bottom of the fraction equation.

    Fraction shapes

The triangle is shaded full or an whole.
    Circle is shaded 3/8.
    Octagon is shaded 1/4.
    Diamond is shaded 4/8.

A circle is not shaded equally and can’t be called a whole.

  4. A unit fraction is when the numerator is 1.
the numerator is the top number of a fraction.
A denominator shows how many times of one thing and it is the low number of a fraction.
    1/1, 3/8, 1/4, 4/8
The circle isn’t one half because 3 parts of 8 don’t show 1 half but the circle shows 3 parts of 8.
    Challenge:
    1/4, 2/8, 3/12, 4/16, 5/20, 6/24, 7/28, 8/32, 9/36, 10/40.

  5. 1. A unit fraction is when it has one on the top and any number at the bottom.
    2. A numerator is the number above the line in a vulgar fraction showing how many of the parts indicated by the denominator are taken, for example,2 in 2/3.
    3. The denominator it is the number below the line in a vulgar fraction,a divisor.
The first one is a 1 hole.
    The second one is 3/8.
    The third one is 1/4.
    The fourth one is 4/8.

  6. 1.A unit fraction is when the numerator is one.
    2. A numerator is the biggest number .
    3. A denominator is the smallest number.

    The triangle is an whole.

    The circle is 3 eighth

    The octagon is 1 quarter

  7. 1. A unit fraction is a fraction that the numerator is 1.
    2. A numerator is the top number of a fraction.
    3. A denominator is the bottom number of a fraction.
    4. The triangle is 1 whole.
    5. The octagon is 1 quarter.
    6. The diamond is 4 eighths.
    7. The circle is 3 eighths.

  8. 1.a unit fraction is when the numerator is number is 1.
2.a numerator is the top number of an half.
2.a denominator is the bottom number of an half.
    The first one is 1hole.
    The second one is 5/3.
    The third one is 1/5.
    The last one is 4/4
Because it’s not split in half properly

  9. 1.A unit fraction is the numerator that is on the top
2.A numerator is when the number is at the top of a fraction.
3.A denominator is the boss and it is at the bottom of the fraction.
    The triangle is a whole
    The dimond is four eight
    The circle is three eight
The circle is not a half so it’s three eight

  10. A unit fraction is a fraction with a one for example 1/4 1/3.
The numerator is the number at the top .
The denominator is the bottom number

  11. 1.It’s when when the numerator is the number one it can not be a other number.
    2. The numerator is how many pices you should shade in .
    3. The bottom number which shows you how many pieces there are.
    4. Because your 4 pieces have to be coulerd in.

  12. 1. It has a 1 on the numerator
    2. It’s the top part of the unit fraction
    3. It is the lower part of the fraction

    Triangle is 1/1
    Circle is 1/3
    Octagon is 1/4
    Kite is 1/4

  13. A unit fraction is when the numerator is 1
A numerator is a number at the top
A decender is a nunber at the bottom
The circle is not a half because it is not equal

    3. The denominatior is the bottom number.

  15. 1.A unit fraction is a number wich the numerator is one
2.The numerator is the top number in a fraction
3.A dinominator is the bottom number of the fraction
Because it has three shaded in and three not shaded in.

  16. 1.it is a fraction when the numerator is a1
2.it is the top number on the fraction
3.it is the bottom number on the friction

    1. A Whole
    2.3/8
    3.1/4
    4.4/8
    5. Because it is not equal

  17. A unit fraction is when the numerator has the number 1.
It shows you whitch parts are still left.
