10.07- PSHE ‘Knowledge is Power’

We often hear the statement, “knowledge is power” but what does this truly mean?

Take the time to reflect on the metaphors above, what do they mean?

Why do words have a greater impact than aggressive behaviour?

During your time at BH did you ever make a difference using the power of your voice and writing?

  1. A person with knowledge knows what he is doing, but a person who doesn’t think about what he is doing is not a smart person. If you don’t think before you do something you might do something wrong and get into trouble.

  2. i think that ‘Knowledge Is Power’ means the more knowledgable and smart you are the more you have power in a way wheer you can prove people wrong

  3. i think that ‘knowledge is power means that the more information you know the more power you will have
i think that ‘the pen is mightier than the sword’ is how the words you write can be stronger than aggressive actions.
words have a greater impact then aggressive actions because the words can mean many different things like emotions but aggressive actions mainly falls into only violence.

  4. Knowledge is power. It is a popular proverb. It means that knowledge is more powerful than any other physical strength. It empowers people to achieve great results and leads to success. Knowledge helps to succeed in any field. The proverb means that true power comes from knowledge. There is no end to knowledge and there is no limit to what a person can learn. Even the complicated problems can be solved if you have the knowledge of solving it. It is considered as the superior strength in gaining success. Therefore knowledge plays a vital role in everywhere. The reason is that it helps us to think for ourselves.

  5. knowledge is power;
knowledge is important because knowledge means what you have understand and what you have learnt, and you shouldn’t do wrong things you know you shouldn’t have done and your words could hurt someone or your actions could to. Knowledge is also what you have learnt and how you apply them when you grow up.

  6. In the first image The reason why the pen is mightier then the sword is because you Basically destroy entire cities with a pen if you think about it. The pen has the power to create. The sword has the power to kill.
And knowledge is power because it will help in a lot of ways.

  7. Knowledge is important because it help you working hard.
    Knowledge is greater then anything.
it help you in life and you will gain.
    it makes you excellent..

  8. Knowledge is power :
It is that a person with knowledge knows what they are doing. The pen is mightier than the sword :Meaning when you write something for example ‘Happy is the way to go’ the word has a stronger meaning than the sword.
To apply this to my life it would be : When something has gone wrong in my day I do what I love and that’s playing games with my cats and cooking. That makes makes me happy and cheerful. But son times I have to do something different so I can be happy because sometimes playing and cooking doesn’t work.

  9. I think that knowledge is power means that knowledge is a better way to solve a problem father then violence because if you use aggressive behaviour then there might be a serious consequences.

  10. Being reasonable with a way that is not aggressive has more of an impact then fighting and being aggressive because if you were to fight your words would not reach them.

  11. Knowledge is powerful than aggressive mean attitude or language. You shouldn’t be using that anger in your body because it could hurt someone alot. Words have a meaning sometimes but anger doesn’t really you are showing your emotions by not controlling your anger so instead of being angry use words!

    • Sometimes words can hurt a lot more than physical sctionx though Lieca. Physical pain subsides after a certain amount of time but people remember the pain of words for a long time

  12. The first metaphor means that you should resort to violence as you never know what may happen. I would say that words are more stronger than violence as you could make a difference and people would actually believe you rather than you fighting then no one could listen to you and what you have to say.
The second metaphor is trying to tell us that knowledge is key and important as if you never had this then you won’t resort into fighting meaning that you can’t solve anything in that way.

    • Hi Amaan, I think it means the exact opposite to what you said. Violence isn’t the answer, it means communication, understanding, empathy will allow you to succeed.

  13. Knowledge instead of using aggressive behaviour you need to change the way you Think this is also a lot easier because with aggressive behaviour people can get hurt.

  14. Knowledge is power means that
Knowledge can help you in life
and in the Future, “The pen is more mightier than the sword
means that a pen is used in exams, work packs and university, a sword won’t help
    you”. Because words are going
to help you in life and the future, as well as words are going to help you in University.
Yes because of words I have
won certificates and also because of my voice I back myself.

  15. I think that knowledge is power means that knowledge is a better way to solve a problem father then violence.Words have a greater impact than aggressive behaviour as it if you were to solve a problem with aggressive behaviour then both sides loss as you didn’t solve anything you just hit each other however it you used knowledge to solve the disagreement then you will find out who was correct.

    • I agree with you on the ‘pen and sword’ quote, to me the ‘Knowledge is Power’ one means something slightly different. Being ignorant of something means that one is unable to make considered and rational choices about it – therefor the ignorant person will be ignored by others as they are pretty much useless at dealing with whatever the situation is. Being knowledgeable and enlightened, means that we can make informed choice that will result in success, whether that me economic, victorious outcomes or happiness. Thus others will follow our lead.

  16. The metaphor “The pen is mightier than the sword” means that words is better than violence. You should use your voice and pen to write instead of fighting because violence is never the answer. Take Gandhi for example, he used words but not violence and he succeeded.
The metaphor “Knowledge is power” means that to be powerful you don’t need money, you need knowledge. To be able to achieve in live you need knowledge more than anything.
Words have a greater impact than aggressive behaviour because you are using you voice to persuade instead of violence as that will make the person more angry and want to do more harm to you.
I used my voice and writing instead of using violence when someone was being rude and annoying. Instead of using violence I used my voice to tell them that was they were doing was not nice and not okay.

  17. The statement ‘Knowledge is power ‘ could mean several things but I think that it means if you know the facts about a certain argument or anything in particular then you have already gained power itself. If you are able to speak about something you are very interested in and have that knowledge then you can achieve anything you want or just if you know the simple things, that doesn’t mean you can’t achieve anything it means the opposite.

‘No great scientist achieved something physically but mentally with
    knowledge’-Zuzanna

The statement ‘The pen is mightier than the sword’ means that rather then solving a problem with a sword or your fists, words could have been used to understand the problem and solve it. Words are much better to understand the cause of a situation and identify the problem, however aggression can be dangerous and also when you physically hurt someone, you might not understand why they are acting like this or anything about them.

During my time at BH, I have leant that it is better to talk to someone about how you feel rather than keep it to yourself because it can become hard to concentrate in lessons and can affect your mental health.

  18. The metaphors above mean you can make more of a difference if you have knowledge than if you have physical power. People can do more with knowledge than with physical power because if you have knowledge people listen to you and you will be more respected than if you have physical power. Words have a greater impact then aggressive behaviour because words can change the way people think. People may fight because of the way they think so instead of using aggressive behaviour you need to change the way they think. This is also a lot easier because with aggressive behaviour people get hurt but people can’t be hurt with words. Yes because when we had a piece of paper to right what we thought about the school the school I wrote stuff so that I could make a difference.

  19. I think knowledge is more powerful than physical strength because with knowledge you know what’s going to happen after making a decision and therefore you would make a good decision. However, physical strength will just turn into a fight and cause trouble rather than apologising about something. The more educated you are, the most powerful you are in life because ‘words are more powerful than actions.’

  20. I believe that “knowledge is power” means that knowledge can outplay bruit strength. For example I go thai boxing and I have the knowledge about how to do it so if someone who has never herd of it or done it before than I can beat them or out think them.

  21. Knowledge is power :
It is that a person with knowledge knows what they are doing.

The pen is mightier than the sword :
Meaning when you write something dor example ‘Happy is the way to go’ the word has a stronger meaning than the sword.

To apply this to my life it would be : When something has gone wrong in my day I do what I love and that’s crafting. Which makes me happy and cheerful. But sometimes it doesn’t help. So I draw what happened and then I draw what I can do better.
    My advice (bonus) :
‘Happy is the way to go’

  22. We often hear the statement, “knowledge is power” but what does this truly mean?
This statement is trying to say that you can achieve in anything only if you only put effort it in.

  23. In my opinion:
I think ‘knowledge of power’ means that when you are learning you start to gain because you work hard and solve problems the hard way. And when you learn it the hard way you start to achieve your mistakes an turn them around to an accomplishment.

  24. Knowledge is greater than brute strength because knowledge you can plan it out and be smart about it. But if you just use brute strength you can fall into a trap and get hurt even more. With knowledge you can sort things out more peaceful but if you use brute strength it can hurt somebody and you shouldn’t solve things with violence .

  25. Knowledge is greater than brute strength because knowledge you can plan it out and be smart about it. But if you just use brute strength you can fall into a trap and get hurt even more. With knowledge you can sort things out more peaceful but if you use brute strength it can hurt somebody and you shouldn’t solve things with violence.

  26. In my opinion knowledge is power means the more educated you are the power you have in life as words are more powerful than actions therefore knowledge is stronger and overtakes power in an argument or a debate.

  27. Knowledge is power in my point of view:
The more you learn and gain from books and articles and what you learn in school, knowledge gives you power for example when you get older you will get a successful job and earn what you deserve.
The pen is mightier than the sword:
The writer Edward bulwer Lytton stated that the pen is mightier than the sword because indicating communication (particularly written language) the pen is more powerful than the sword because of all the emotion you can put into it and you can make it your own story.

  28. “Knowledge is power” means that with your knowledge you can have control and that you have power in life.

“The pen is mightier than the sword” means that writing is much more powerful than physically fighting or being violent.

  29. I think that knowledge means what you have learnt and that it is very important, as you shouldn’t do the wrong thing and actually think that your words could hurt someone or your actions could to. These can both be hurtful. Knowledge is also what you have learnt and how you apply them when you grow up.

  30. 1)”Knowledge is power “ is a famous proverb which states that a person with knowledge can get the better of the physical strength of any other person.
2)”The pen is mightier than the sword” means a person can cause people to change their opinions.
3)No, during my time at Broad Heath I have not made a difference using the power of my voice and writing.

    • Words have a greater impact than aggressive behavior because words mean something but aggressive behavior has no clear meaning. It is better to talk and sort things out rather than fight.
