Children return to school Mon 8th April

1 Red – Spring 1 Portfolios 2021

In this blog, we will be showcasing the children’s best work they have completed for different subjects in Spring 1.

Well done to the children who have produced these fantastic pieces of work during the half term.

Greatest Mathematicians

What a term! The children in 1Red have made lots of progress in their maths. Not only did they work with numbers to 50, they used their knowledge of addition and subtraction to solve lots of number problems! The children enjoyed using the less than, greater than and equal to symbols when comparing numbers. This term has also seen the children developing their reasoning skills further. Well done to these superstars for going above and beyond each day.

English Superstars

1Red, you have made so much progress this half term. It has been amazing! The children explored a non-fiction text about sharks…yes SHARKS! How terrifying they are! Not only did the children understand the features of a non-fiction text, they explored where sharks live, what they eat and shared interesting facts. We have 30 shark experts in 1Red!
After the unit on non-fiction texts, the children delved into the world of patterned stories. We focused on the book, Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? First, the children understood what an adjective is (a describing word) and what a noun is (a naming word). The children used their very own adjectives to describe their favourite animals and when they did, they wrote their very own patterned story! 1Red have 30 authors and illustrators!

Topic & Science Stars

Science – This half term the children learnt about animals. They identified and grouped these animals according to their various classes. The children learnt these interesting words: amphibians, mammals, fish, birds and reptiles. Additionally, they created PicCollages to present their work.

Topic – Fabulous Foleshill. The children learned lots about the local area and shared ideas on how to improve it. The children created maps and labelled the different places in Foleshill for example: schools, shops, mosque, church, doctor’s surgery and the police station. Finally, the children created a fantastic poster to advise people to stop littering. What a great unit of work!

Fun Friday

As well as learning in Maths, English, Science and Topic, the children have been very creative this half term as they took part in Mrs Patel’s Creative blogs. They learnt lots of new skills and used their creativity skills to make something new each week!
