    Bronze:
On November 14th 1940, the Luftwaffe launched its most devastating air raid of the second world war so far. I am about to tell you why the Germans targeted Coventry. Coventry was targeted by the Germans because it was an important city and made a lot of weapons for war. Coventry’s brave people were beginning to doubt whether the dreadful war would ever end.

    Gold:
    1. •The result of the blitz was shocking and caused many people to flee Britain.

•Coventry was so low in defence that the Luftwaffe even had time to film the bombing.

•German historian Dietmar Sϋβ said: “The idea that masses in a state of terror ceased to behave humanely and became transformed into a violent mob verging on the bestial was a widespread assumption.” And while that assumption may have been unfounded, to people in the city the wild rumours that followed the raid were highly distressing, sparking fear and panic.

    •There were 449 German bombers.

•30000 incendiary bombs were dropped (1600 of which were high explosives).

    •568 people were killed.

    •71 factories were damaged.

•41500 houses were damaged (2306 of which were destroyed).

It was the worst of wars where more than 38 million people died and the most destructive war in the history of mankind.

    1. Mrs Sanders

Serina, please watch the learning video again. For bronze you should have filled the gaps with the 5ws you took notes on during the video. For example: On 14 November 1940, the Luftwaffe launched it’s most devastating bombing raid. This introduction should be about the Coventry blitz.
