2B 11.05.20 STEM To build a shelter

Can you remember the materials you needed to build a shelter for Mr Fox? What properties did they have?

Last week, you designed your shelter… so now you need to build it!

If you can go outside to build your shelter that would be great! If you haven’t the materials you chose, be inventive and use what you can find. Think about how the shelter will protect Mr Fox from the farmers and the weather.

If you are unable to go outside, you can always create a model shelter using the materials you have around your home and label it, explaining the materials you would use if they were available.

Write a short sentence on the blog, explaining how you got on! Don’t forget to send a photo if you can to y2upload@broadheath.coventry.sch.uk we would love to see your creations. Good luck!

  1. Last week I chose wood for door and window, brick for walls and plastic sheet for roof but I don’t have these materials. I’ll try to find different materials to build a shelter and I’ll send pic.
The shelter will need to be strong, waterproof and invisible to protect Mr fox from the famers and bad weather.

    • Why is wood a good material to use for a window? A window needs to be transparent – wood is not transparent.
What material allows light though could be used for a window?

  2. I built my shelter and sent a picture. I used leaves for camouflage because it helps it to blend in. Camouflage means something that blends in with their backround.

  3. Last week I design to make a shelter out of the bricks and wood for the top and doors. I dont have those material to build a shelter so i used plastic bricks I had at home, for door i used paper and for the roof i choosed one of the bricks that look like roof and has window on it .
I will send the pictures to you.
