3 Blue Learn About Seed Dispersal

In Science this week 3 Blue learned about the different ways seed were dispersed. We were intrigued and wanted to find out which form of seed dispersal resulted in the seed dispersing the furthest away from its original place. Watch out investigation below.

In what ways are seeds dispersed?

Which type of dispersal led to the seed being moved the furthest from its original position?

Why is it important that seeds are dispersed and in different ways?

In what ways are seeds dispersed?
Seeds are dispersed in different ways. The most common ways are wind, water, animals and explosion.
Seeds are dispersed by wind that blows them from their plants to different places so then they can grow.
Water carries the seeds to different places.
Animals getting seeds stuck onto their fur and also eating the seeds from the plants and being dispersed with the use of animal poo.
Explosion is when the plant explodes.
Which type of dispersal led to the seed being moved the farthest from its original position?
Wind dispersal led to the seed being with the furthest from its original position.
Why is it important that seeds are dispersed and in different ways?
Seed dispersal allows plants to spread out from a wide area and avoid competing with one another for the same resources.

1.One was from a bird that have finish eating fruit then flew a bit far and poo.
    2. The other one was the seed pop and whet a bit far.
    3. next one that was we had to shake of that spikey seed out of our body.
    4. And the heavy one went further.🦜🦅🍇🥭🍍🍓

    1. In what ways are seeds dispersed?
The seeds are dispersed in the following ways:
    . Plants being shaken.
. Wind blowing seeds to new places so they can grow.
. Water carrying the seeds to new and far places.
. Seeds bursting out of a plant.
. Getting stuck to animal’s fur.
. Birds eating berries and pooping the seeds out.
    2. Which type of dispersal led to the seed being moved the furthest from its original position?
The following type of dispersal leads the seed to being moved the furthest from it’s original position:
    1. The streams could lead to the seeds being dispersed miles away from its original position.
    2. The birds could also lead to the seeds being dispersed miles away from its original position. As birds can fly for miles.
    3. The seeds getting stuck to the animal’s fur. This type of dispersal can lead the seed being moved as the animal roams the fields for example.
    4. The seeds bursting out of a plant can cause it to fly far from its original location.
    5. If the wind was very strong it could blow the seed very far.
    6. If the plant was shaken, the seed would fall out right near the plant.

Why is it important that seeds are dispersed and in different ways?
If the seeds are not dispersed in different ways then the seeds would grow together in the same space. There would not be enough water in the soil for most plants to get it and the plants would die.

      What super answers Amirah!

How do you think the seeds of an apple are dispersed?

  4. Alima S.

Seeds dispersed in tip of plant.
    And some are amazing.

Think back to our experiment outside Alima. How was each seed dispersed?
