# 3B. Entrepreneur Week. 03.06.20. Adding money

Today, you have been writing instructions to make your sandwich. In this blog, your challenge is to read the recipe and see what ingredients are needed. Find those ingredients in the shopping list at the bottom and then calculate how much the sandwich would cost to make. Clue: Not everything on the shopping list is needed for this sandwich.

## Method

1. Bring a pan of water to the boil and carefully lower in the eggs. Cook for 6 mins, then cool under running water until they can be peeled. Peel the eggs, then leave to cool completely.
2. Mash or chop the eggs, then mix with 1½ tbsp mayonnaise and some seasoning, if you like. Toast the bread.
3. Lay one slice of bread on a board. Butter it, then spread on three quarters of the egg and scatter over the cress. Add another slice of toast and gently spread on the remaining mayo. Add the tomato and lettuce . Top with the final piece of toast. Cut the crusts off if you like, then gently cut the sandwich into four quarters, being careful not to squash out the egg.

I think our suppliers are to expensive we need to buy in bulk and use the cash and carry and wholesale markets to get cheaper prices, each sandwich should be costing us less then 75p to produce and pack.
Lettuce costs 50/60p in Sainsbury’s yet we are being sold one for £2.40, maybe we should start a farm and grow lord of lettuce.

No that would make multiple sandwiches, yummy different combinations.

19. Faizan R.

Adding the money front list for the sandwich is £11.45

All pounds £
Cress £1.20
Mayonnaise £1.00
Cheese £1.30
Butter £2.20
Lettuce £2.40
Tomato £1.35
Total £10.65

All the pence
Eggs 60p
Pepper 20p
Total 80p

Add total together is £11.45 total of all ingredients.

• Mrs Khaliq

Well done Faizan, you added money well.
Now find the ingredients you need for your sandwich. How much would those ingredients cost?

• Mrs A Patel

Well done Faizan. I am impressed. You have listed the cost for all the items and added the money correctly.

If you take £15.00 to the shop and spend £11.45p what change would you get?

• Faizan R.

You would get £3.55 in change back, from £15 – £11.45.
If you add 55p to round up to £1, then it was easy £12 -£15 = £3.
So add £3 + 55p = £3.55 in change from £15.

• Mrs A Patel

You are correct and I am impressed with your step by step working out.
