  1. Bronze – Why do we have a title, contents and pictures?

Content: It helps the reader find the information what they are looking for.

Pictures: Helps us see information and make explanation clearer.

Silver – Explain the difference between contents and index pages?

Contents page is at the beginning of the book and the Index page is at the end of the book. The content page lists the content of the book in the order they appear; Index page lists the important words in the alphabetical order to help the reader find the information they are looking for.

Gold – Compare the introduction and conclusion. Why are they different? Write your answer in full sentences.

Introduction is usually after the content pages. The introductory paragraph is to introduce the topic. It includes facts about the topic following the description. The conclusion at the toward the end of information text and it is to remind the reader of the main points. It is usually written as a summary to outline the information of the main topic.

  2. Silver.
A table of contents is a list of the parts of a book or document while an index is a list of important words, concepts, and other useful materials in a book or document.

  3. Title (publishing) The title of a book, or any other published text or work of art, is a name for the work which is usually chosen by the Author.
A table of contents is important to orient the reader. It gives them a roadmap to the novel (just like a plot outline acts as a map to the writer). Breaking up writing into manageable chunks (sections, parts, chapters) makes it easier to digest for readers.
They also help young readers to visualise the story, if they don’t understand the words the pictures can help them figure out the meaning. The pictures convey the meaning which help children understand even if they can’t, or are learning to read
