4B – Home Learning – Monday 11th May – English

This week’s SPaG revision is the verb tense agreement. In this session, we will look at the accurate use of present tense verbs.

This video gives some examples, but remember, we will be using the PRESENT TENSE!!!

Bronze:
Sort the verbs into past and present. If you don’t know the meaning of a word, please look it up in a dictionary and write a definition.

Please do this in your homework book or on a piece of paper and send it in via email.

Sort the past and present tense words into a table like this. Try to put the matching words side-by-side in the correct column.

Silver:
Add the PRESENT tense verb to these sentences. Please rewrite the whole sentence
The plane _______ at 6:30.
I will phone you when he _______ back.
The sun _______ in the east.
The next term _______ on Monday.
James ______ with his left hand.
My dad _______ for a walk every day.
They ______ English in the USA.

Gold:
Using the powerful verb list, pick 5 and write a definition. Then write each one in a sentence to show deeper understanding.

Please ensure the verb/sentence is present tense.

    • Thank you for trying, however, I feel this is too simple and you need to stretch yourself more.
In school, you wouldn’t start all sentences in the same way. Where are your fronted adverbials? You have missed full stops. Please can you uplevel some of these sentences.

      • If you could do the silver challenge as well Timothy instead of rushing ahead. This should help you better understand how to use these verbs correctly with a range of sentence openers.
