5 Blue – Air resistance experiment

Today, we tested how long it takes for a paper helicopter to reach the ground.  Answer the questions below:-

What force are we trying to harness?

How long did it take for your helicopter to reach the ground?

How does the length of the wing/number or paper clip size affect the time it takes to fall?

What would happen if it was dropped from different heights?

What would happen if the shape of the wings were changed?

If you were to do this test again, what would you change and why?

  1. 1. The force that were trying to do is air resistance
2.i think are score was 1.10 for the experiment
    3. I think the length of the helicopter is a big surface and a smaller surface
4.if the paper helicopter was was dropped quicker of a smaller height and a bigger height.
5.if there was wings shaped as a triangle will drop faster.
    6. If we did the test again I would change the helicopter bigger because it will drop even more faster.

  2. 1The forces we are trying to harness is Air resistance.

2It took 1.15 seconds to reach the ground
3 If the wing is longer it will take longer to reach the ground.
4 If the wings changed it would go faster.
    5. I would change my wings so it could go slower.

  3. 1) we are trying to harness air resistance
    2) it took 1.1sec to land on it
3)if my wings were fix it would fall slower
4)if it dropped higher it would take a little slower to fall
5)if it,s wing change it will fall slower
6)I would change my wings because it will take slower to fall

  4. The force that we are using is air resistance
    It took 2.94
If the plane was bigger than it will go slower if the was smaller than it will go faster

  5. 1. The force that we are trying to use are air resistance.
    2. It took 1.38 seconds for the paper helicopter to fall on the ground.32. If 3.the wing were smaller then it would fall quicker and if the wing were
longer then it would go slower.
    4. If you dropped the helicopter then it will take longer.

  6. 1.We are trying to harness air resistance
2.It took me 1 second for the helicopter to reach the ground
3.It effects the wing because it will go in another direction
4.If It dropped from different height it will not be a fair test and it will make the speed increase
5.If you change the wing shape it will spin around
6.If I done the test again I would change the wings so it can spin around.

  7. 1.We are trying to harness air resistance.
2.My helicopter took 1 second for it to reach the ground.
3.It affects the helicopter by either sometimes making the speeds slow.
4.If it was dropped from different heights the times would be slow.
5.If the shape of the wings were changed the helicopter might not fall from a distance properly.
6.If I did this test again I would change the hights to a far distance to see how fast it will land on the ground.

  8. The forces you use is air resistance and gravity

It took 2 seconds to land safely

The size of the wings where effective because bigger the wings are the slower it will go

If you droplet it higher it fall slower

If the wings where change it might go faster

If we did the test again I would make bigger wings.

  9. 1.The force we are trying to use is air resistant.
2.My helicopter took 3.15seconds to reach the ground.
3.If the wing were smaller they would go quicker and if they were long they would go slower.
4.If you dropped the helicopter from a different high it would take longer then it normal takes.
5.If it was in a different shape maybe a triangle it would maybe go in a zig zag.
6.If I did it again I would maybe make the paper bigger because it might be better to test and it would maybe take longer.

  10. 1) the forces we were trying to harness were air resistance.
    2) my plane took 2. 94(N)
3)if the wings were smaller the plane would be quicker then if it’s bigger it would take longer.
4)it wouldn’t be a fair test because everyone isa different height so it would falll longer for time

  11. The force we where trying to get was air resistance

    It took 2.05 seconds

The length of the wing makes it fall longer or shorter

If it would fall from different heights it wouldn’t be a fair test

If the wings changed it would probably not work

I would change how big it was because it might work for luke

  12. The force we are trying to harness is air resistance
Our helicopter took 2.14 seconds to reach the ground
If you have smaller wings then the helicopter will land quicker, however if your wings are big it will land with a smooth landing.
If you dropped the helicopter from a high spot then the helicopter will take more time to land on the ground but if you drop the helicopter from a low spot then your helicopter will take a less amount of time to land on the ground.

  13. 1)we are trying to harness air resistance.
2)it took me 0.69 seconds to fall to the ground.
3)the wing size effects the helicopter by if you have a bigger wing more air will catch.
4)if it was dropped at a small height the timer would be low and if it was dropped at a high height the time would be high.
5)If we changed the shape of the wings it may have flew differently.
6)if I could do the test again I would make a small aeroplane and then I would be low

  14. 1. The force we are teying to harness is air resistance.
2.My helicopter took 2.5 to 4.0 seconds to reach the ground.
3.the wing size effects the helicopter by if you have a bigger wing more air will catch onto the wing making it have a smooth landing and more air resistence however a shorter wing will make it fall more faster because the air resistence is low meaning the air caught on the wing low making the helicopter fall faster.
    4. If you dropped the helicopter from different hights it will effect it by if it has a long flight it will have more time to catch air onto the wings however if you put it at a really low height it won’t be able to catch enough air making it no being able to glide slowly down.
    5. I predict if the shape of the wings on the helicopter were to change it will change its flying pattern for example it could go side to side maybe just glide or just go straight down.
    6. If I were to do the experiment I’d maybe change the material because it’d be interesting to find out which materials work best for it maybe for example it could be foil or baking paper. Who knows?

  15. What force are we trying to harness?

We are trying he harness the force Air Resistance.

How long did it take for your helicopter to reach the ground?

2.12 seconds is the amount of time it took for my helicopter to land on the carpet.

How does the length of the wing/number or paper clip size affect the time it takes to fall?

If the wings were smaller it would fall quickly if bigger it would be a loner amount of time.

What would happen if it was dropped from different heights?

It would not be a fair test because everyone is a different height so it would fall for longer amounts of time.

What would happen if the shape of the wings were changed?

If it had triangle shaped wings it could fall in a different pattern of fall quickly as for it is an shape with some edges unequal.

If you were to do this test again, what would you change and why?

I`d change the shape of the wings because it would be interesting looking at the way it falls.

  16. 1) The force we are trying to have harness is air resistance .
    2) It took 69 seconds for our helicopter to fall to the ground.
3)The length of the wing depends on if it shorter, if it’s shorter it could go quicker but if it longer it could go slower.
4)If the paper helicopter was dropped from different heights it would depend because if it was dropped from a lower height it would fall quicker however if it was dropped from a very much higher height it would take less time to fall to the ground .
5)If the wings were smaller the paper plane would fall down quicker because they are shorter.
6)If I were to change this experiment I would change the height it falls from because some people are taller and shorter than other people so I don’t think Luke would have fallen from a small or medium height .

  17. What force are we trying to harness?
We are trying to harness the force air resistance
How long did it take for your helicopter to reach the ground?
It took the helicopter 1.2 seconds
How does the length of the wing/number or paper clip size affect the time it takes to fall?
If the wing is longer then the helicopter will fall slower. If it is shorter
it will fall faster. If there is a paper clip on the helicopter then it will fall faster.
What would happen if it was dropped from different heights?
If it is dropped from really high it will take more time to reach the ground. If it is dropped from lower it will take less time for it to reach the ground.
What would happen if the shape of the wings were changed?
The shape of the wing doesn’t matter, the size matters. For example, if we had a helicopter with a big triangle wing and another one with a small square wing the one with the big wing is going down slower. If he had a helicopter with a big square wing and another one with a small triangle wing the one with the big square wing would go slower.
If you were to do this test again, what would you change and why?
I would get smaller helicopters dropped from a higher distance so, we would see a bigger difference between a small winged helicopter and a large winged one.

  18. 1.)We are trying to harness air resistance.
    2.)It took me 8.81 seconds.
3.)If the wings are very little or will faster.
4.)If it was dropped from a high place it will fall for a long time but if it was dropped from a low place it will fall for a very short time.
5.)If the wings were another shape it would be falling another way.
6.)I would change the shape of the wings because it might be better for it to fall why won’t we try.

  19. 1 We are trying to harness air resistance
    2 It took 1.32 seconds
3 When the wings are small it will fall faster
4 If it was dropped from different heights it would have different results
5 If we changed the shape of the wings it may have flew differently
6 I would change were we drop it from because it may have more interesting results

    • 1. The force we are trying to harness is air resistance.
      2. It took 69 seconds for our helicopter to fall to the ground.
      3. The length of the wings really does effects the time to fall because if the Lange of the wing is smaller then it would be more quickly.
4.If it was dropped from different heights it would

  20. The force that we are trying is air resistance.
It took1.2seconds to reach the ground.
If the wings were longer it will fall slower and it would have more air resistance.if you have smaller wing you will have more gravity.
If you drop it from a higher distance you would have more air resistance. And If you drop it from a lower distance you will have more gravity.
so for example a paper helicopter had bigger wings and then you fold them to make them smaller your paper helicopter will fly down quickly.

  21. What force are we trying to harness?

I would get smaller helicopters dropped from a higher distance so, we would see a bigger difference between a small winged helicopter and a large winged one.

  22. 1. The force that we were trying to harness is
    – Air resistance.
    2. It took 2.05 seconds for the paper helicopter to fall on the ground safely.
    3. The length of the wings really does effects the time to fall because if the length of the wing is smaller then it would be more quicker. Plus, if you make the whole paper helicopter was small then I would just fall on the floor as Quick as a flash. But if the wings were very long and the whole helicopter was large then it would take at least maximum- 5.34 seconds.
    4. If the paper helicopter was dropped from different heights then it won’t be a fair test also, not all people are not the same height from each other. We are different!!
    5. Imagine if both of the wings were for example a triangle then it would probably be faster to fall on the floor because some of the sides have a edge that unequal.
    6. If I were to do the test again I would change the portion of the paper helicopter to a bigger one because we haven’t tried that yet so maybe really interesting 🧐 of how it goes.
Plus, who knows it might be fit for Luke !!!
