5 Blue Growth Mindset

Today we learnt about two mindsets. One which will always hold us back and another which will help us to persevere and become resilient. Do you remember the correct psychological terms for these two mindsets?

Below are images of some of the activities we undertook today to help grow our mindsets.

Challenge one: Create an origami penguin without instruction, some of us struggled and some of us peresevered. After we evaluated our own thoughts we had a go again, we supported one another and followed a few basic instructions. This resulted in a whole class worth of penguins being produced, some even created a whole family of penguins. What did we gain from this activity?

Our second challenge of the day was explaining the importance of growth mindsets and reflecting on our personal challenges we have overcome. Please share when you’ve used your growth mindset to overcome a challenge?

I used to be unable to draw quality images in art because we always drew things I didn’t really care about. However, one day after art I had my growth mindset on and really wanted to try and improve my drawings. Instead of drawing things we did in art, I drew Pokemon and I was really impressed with myself. Then on my next art lesson, I was a lot better at drawing!

However, in Literacy it was unaided writing and we couldn’t use our plan and I panicked wondering how I will be able to write my story. Remembering some effective and useful language and also trying to remember some key points in my plan, I fearlessly wrote my piece without being negative and doubting myself and I got on with it!
