    3)Nut-brown eyes lingered. They lingered which means looking around.
    4)*Was empty of life.*
    4b)*Terry was a relic.*
    5)The book shop was always vibrant.
    6)Vibrant,darkness,relic,filthy.
    7)No.

  2. Activity 1:
    1 – Powerful adjectives and adverbs are as follows;
    timidly, beautiful, vivid, jaunty, red, emerald, swiftly, sorrowful, nut-brown.

    2 –The writer shows not tells how the character is feeling by using various descriptive language techniques. The writer uses the phrase, ‘swiftly retreated’ to show that Tara is having second thoughts about joining in with the other children. This is showing that Tara is a shy character.

    3 –The impact of the personification, ‘…gold earrings clung to the top of her ears as if worried they might slip off.’ is that it is showing that the earrings are tightly fastened to her ears as if they are afraid they are going to fall off.

    Activity 2:
    1 – Metaphors are as follows;
    Terry was a relic, Terry was enveloped in another world, Trenches etched in his forehead.

    2 – Personification that has been used are as follows;
    In his aged hands he held a friend.

    3 – Powerful adjectives are as follows;
    vibrant, semi-darkness, bent, sore, receding, thin, relic, filthy, checked, dreary, with, patched, gloominess, closed, failed, frail, feeble.

    4 – There are two pieces of alliteration in the text, filthy fleece and frail, feeble man.

  3. Activity 1
    1 – Write down any powerful adjectives and adverbs used.
    Kaleidoscope of colour. nut-brown. swiftly. jaunty red
    Vivid beads sorrowful. timidly emerald green

    2 – Write and explain how the writer shows not tells how the character is feeling.
    ‘Her heart ached’ ‘She put out her foot but then swiftly software’s
    These phrases show the reader that the girl feels scared and left out as she watches the other children play without her.Maybe she wants to go and play with them but the reason she might be scared is because she might think that the other children won’t like her.

    3 – Write and explain the impact of any personification the writer has used.
    ‘…several good eerings clung to the top of her ears as if worried they might slip of.’
    This is an example of personification because the author has used verbs like clung and different emotions which may be considered human like features to describe the eerings but also this shows how the girl feels.I think this because in the text it says ‘ She hung her head’ which tells me that this particular person feels anxious.
