6 Red – Art in the style of Sayaka Ganz

This week in project week, Year 6 have been looking at Art around the World. The artist they have studied all week is Sayaka Ganz (who is from Japan) and what inspired her to use recycled material as art. They have also researched about Japan’s industry and how Sayaka’s art is helping to sustain their country by people understanding the purpose of ‘upcycling’.

They have also learned that many Japanese people believe in the religion Shinto, this where every object is seen to have a soul and energy, the belief is these objects should be cared for. This is something Sayaka believes in and brings together in her art in an Organic form. She is bringing a new form of energy when upcyling items by creating art for people to enjoy.

6 Red you have been super this week and you have worked so hard producing your sculptures from start to finish. You have worked as a team, listened to each other’s ideas, shown determination and resilience – and didn’t give up even when you found cutting the plastic difficult. Amazing work. We are very proud of you.

I would like you to write a short paragraph about what you enjoyed this week and how you have made progress?

When it was project week , I enjoyed when we were using chicken wire to create our sea creatures because I found it easy and it was so much fun even though we got hurt . I’ve made progress by being able to create a 3D sculpture because first I thought I could never do that but then I showed myself I could do it . This means I have used two of the BH values resilience and perseverance .

This week we have been looking at the artist Sayaka Ganz who made art through using recycled materials. I have also learnt about Japan’s industry and it’s celebration (Shinto) Shinto is a Japanese celebration dating from the early 8th century and incorporating the worship of ancestors and nature spirits and belief in sacred power (Kami) in both animate and inanimate things. It was the state religion of Japan until 1945. I have made progress this week by making a sculpture in the style of Sayaka Ganz!

I enjoyed learning and researching recycled art and about Japan industry. I made progress by making a recycle scorcher and all using plastic, chinking wire, tap, and bags and carbon.

This week, I enjoyed making our group’s sculpture, especially when making the form out of chicken wire, because I was really good at it. I learned about Japan’s industries and that they make a lot of pollution. I also learned about the religion shinto and its beliefs. G
