6 Red’s Science and Maths week

6 Red have had a fabulous week. This weeks big question was “How to survive in the rain forest?” We investigated if there is a direct correlation between a persons leg and running. We also conducted an experiment to find out how different materials filter water to make it drinkable. It was fun to cook food found in Amazon rainforest on the fire pit. In our teams, using our knowledge of coordinates and applying maths skills we completed orienteering activity. What a super week we had!

What new vocabulary have you learnt this week?
I learnt what liquids and solids are!
    A liquid can’t be squashed
And a solid cannot be squashed and don’t break apart!
What British values have you applied this week?
I have applied Teamwork whilst doing group activities
Also resilience and Hard work and creativity when facing hard challenges!

    Filtration-Making water clear and drinkable
    Heat conduction- Heat transfer.
We used teamwork communication and resilience.

  3. Ebraheem J.

Filtration making water clear and drinkable. The British values I applied was teamwork and communication.

  4. Zubeyr H.

The vocabulary I learnt was filter you needed to do that to make the water edible. The values that we applied was respect resilience and teamwork

  5. Reyan M.

The vocab i learnt was filtering it means to make it more cleam

    2) the British values are Teamwork and recilliance and commuication

  6. Ryan I.

The new vocabulary that I have learnt is filtering it means to let’s something pass through.

The brithis values that I have applied are resilience.

  7. Haniah T.

    1. The vocabulary I learnt is drinkable
    2. The values that I applied is teamwork and resilience.

This week we have been learning about The Amazon Rainforest and how to survive in it. We decided to create a fire and what you will need to make a fire. You will need Oxygen, heat and fuel to make a fire you can also use fire to take away bacteria from your water which is mostly found in The Amazon Rainforest due to how much soil there is there in the rivers. We learnt about this word called Ratio which means different sizes to measure
objects or living things and you can multiply them to make it bigger or divide it to make it smaller.
    2) The British Values that we have used is communication and teamwork
because we have used communication skills to safely cross around the fire by listening to our pupils and teachers. Teamwork was used when we did the science experiment about how to get all the bacteria from the Amazon Rainforest river.

    1) The vocabulary that I learn is drinkable. Drinkable is what you can drink.
    2) The values I used was teamwork, resilience, knowledge and communication.

the vocabulary i learnt was non newtonian fluid and its liquid that doesnt follow newtons laws for liquid. The values that we used were teamwork communicaton we tried our best and never gave up.

  11. Shahzaib A.

This week I and the class had to use our resilience, perseverance and also communication as we had to work together and never give up when solving the maths problems.

  12. Sahar A.

The word that I learnt during the week was non Newton. It means fluid and a liquid that isn’t with the liquid.

The British values that I have applied during the week was teamwork and communication because we had to work as a team and communicate a lot as well so they are the British values that I have applied during the week.

Scatter graph:The scatter diagram graphs pairs of numerical data, with one variable on each axis, to look for a relationship between them. I also was very confused and interested in the experience of the adventure and experiment we had on rainforest week also I never knew so much about campfire it was a great week

1.The vocabulary I have learnt this week is ‘estimation’ this means it a rough guess for example how much would a laptop cost I would have to give an estimate on how much a laptop cost but not exactly the correct and perfect answer.
2.This week we have used teamwork to help each other on what we think.Communication, to talk to our partner or group to solve the experiment.Resilience, to show that we can do it.

  15. Jawariyah A.

What new vocabulary have you learnt this week? Can you explain what they mean?
The vocabulary that I learnt Non-Newtonian. Non-Newtonian is when a liquid doesn’t follow Newton’s law.

What British values have you applied this week?
The British Values that I used where Resilience by never giving up in our water filtration investigation and also communication by when we did our Imovie , ‘Can you survive in the Amazon Rainforest?’.

Two words I have learnt this week are:
Medium/ratio: To find out the ratio you must add up all your answers and divide them by how many there are for example if I solve my rubix cube 3 times and my scores are 3.78 ,8.97 ,2.07 I first are them all together then review them by three because I have three results and I get my ratio/medium.
Scaling: Scaling means to take an objects measurement and resize/ remake it in a bigger or smaller state.
    2. A British value we have used this week is resilience because when we were doing activities like the orienteering there were some difficult problems that took me some time to think and work out and I had lots of wrong answers however I kept trying and eventually solved the riddle or maths problem.

1.Non-newtonian-a fluid changing in consistency when mechanical stress is applied, becoming either more or less viscous.
Ratio- the quantitative relation between two amounts showing the number of times one value contains or is contained within the other.
Scatter Graph – A scatter graph is a type of plot or mathematical diagram using Cartesian coordinates to display values for typically two variables for a set of data.

  18. Lakeysha M.

    1. New vocabulary I have learnt this week are :
Ooblek – A fluid made from cornflour and water that can turn liquid when you grab some on a spoon but solid when it stays in it’s place or holder .

Non – Newtonian – A fluid that changes texture when mechanical stress is applied.

Scaling – Scaling in maths means where something gets from big to small or small to big measured in an accurate way .

Ratio – A ratio shows how much one thing is compared to another .

Scatter graph – A scatter graph is where results of a task is everywhere on a graph .

Venomous – If something bites you , you get poisoned .

    2) The British values we have applied this week are teamwork because we had to work as a team to help each other do tasks , resilience because we worked really hard and never gave up and communication because we had to talk to each other about the tasks .

Great job Adam you done rarely every chaleng and you even helped us with the snakes 🐍 name

This week I have learnt a new word that is non-Newtanian which means:
A non-Newtonian fluid is a fluid that does not follow Newton’s law of viscosity, In non-Newtonian fluids, viscosity can change when under force to either more liquid or more solid. Ketchup, for example, becomes runnier when shaken.
What British values have you applied this week?
This week one of the values I used was teamwork because I worked as a team to make the dirty water drinkerble and in the maths trail I worked as a team to work out where the cones were and I also worked out the answers as a team.I also used the value respect because I respected all my team mates and that was how we worked out everything and we got a long fine.

  20. Harun O.

What new vocabulary have you learnt this week? Can you explain what they mean?
The new vocabulary I learnt was non-Newtonian which means it doesn’t follow Newton’s laws for a liquid.

What British values have you applied this week?
The British values have I applied this week are resilience because on the maths trail, I used resilience to find the answer to clues even if the clues were to hard. Also I used teamwork because I worked as a team to find how to filter the water and make it drinkable.

  21. Velin R.

What new vocabulary have you learnt this week? Can you explain what they mean?
This week I learnt the word non-Newtonian fluid and it is a liquid that doesn’t follow Newton’s laws for a liquid.

What British values have you applied this week?
The British values have I applied this week are knowledge, because, on the maths trail, I used knowledge to find the answer to clues. Also I used teamwork because I worked as a team to find how to make water drinkable.

  22. Scarlett D.

    1. The vocabulary that I learnt is drinkable. Drinkable is what you can
    drink.
    2. The values that we applied this week is teamwork, resilience and
    communication.
