Children return to school Mon 8th April

6B mimicking Sat-Nav’s!

Today in computing, 6B were investigating satellite navigation. We used orientation, drone shots of maps to figure out directions for the school. We then switched groups and children had to become ’Sat-Nav’s’ figuring out other groups directions. We used: A compass, trundle wheels and a birds-eye view map of the school!

challenge: What is triangulation? What did you find challenging about this task?

    What is triangulation?
Is three circle that pinpoints your location when using a satellite navigation device.

I didn’t find any thing tricky apart from when we swapped the map with a group, their map was wrong, as it took us to the wrong place.

    What is triangulation?
Triangulation means (in surveying) the tracing and measurement of a series or network of triangles in order to determine the distances and relative positions of points spread over an area, especially by measuring the length of one side of each triangle and deducing its angles and the length of the other two sides by observation from this baseline or formation of or division into triangles.
What did you find challenging about this task?
I personally found nothing that hard (challenging).

Great use of outdoors to promote some fun learning, well done.

    What is triangulation?
Measurement of the elements necessary to determine the network of triangles into which any part of the earth’s surface is divided in surveying broadly.
What did you find challenging about this task?
What I found challenging is finding North, East, South and West.
