What is a regular polygon?

How do you find the measure of each interior angle of a polygon ...

Bronze- Mrs Ahmed’s Maths group
(For this task you would benefit from drawing these shapes out and practically folding them into triangles etc)

  1. Jeremi J.

    1. Hexagon
    2. Octagon
    3. Heptagon
    4. 210 degrees
    5. 144 degrees

  2. Mario G.

    Silver:

    1. Pentagon = 5 sides, 35 triangles, the sum of interior angles add up to 540 degrees.
Nonagon = 9 sides, 9 triangles, the sum of interior angles add up to 1260 degrees.
Decagon = 10 sides, 8 triangles, the sum of interior angles add up to 144 degrees.
Hexagon = 6 sides, 6 triangles, the sum of interior angles add up to 120 degrees.

    Nonagon:9 sides 9 triangles
Angles add up to 1260 degrees
    Decagon:10 sides 8 triangles

  4. Riyad U.

1). Hexagon, two down a vertical line, and two on a horizontal line.
2).The interior angles of an 8 sided octagon add up to 1080.
3).Heptagon as more sides than a hexagon but fewer than a octagon. An octagon has eight sides whilst a hexagon has 6 sides, so the only number that is in between those two values is the number 7, the specific seven sided shape is called a heptagon.
    4).y= 150 Degrees
    5).y= 36 Degrees
    6).y= 30 Degrees
    7).y= 48 Degrees
    8).y= 72 Degrees
    9).y= 72 Degrees

      Good.

      Reasoning???

  7. Ayub A.

    A.)Hexagon.
    2.) Octagon
    3.) Heptagon
The sum interior angle of a Heptagon is 900 degrees.

    1. Miss Kaur

Well done for trying Ayub, can you go back and complete the bronze challenge only.

    2. Mr Patel

Can you tell me some of the properties of these shapes?

  8. Humaira K.

    1.)What is a regular polygon?
    5 sided pentagon
    A.)A Hexagon has,
    6 sides.
    4 triangles.
    180 x 6 = 1180
    B.)A Pentagon has,
    7 sides.
    5 triangles.
    180 x 5 = 900.

    1. Mr Patel

Are you able to explain how you got your answers?

    B.)Octagon.
    C.) Heptagon.
    2.) 150 degrees.
    B.) 36 degrees.
    C.) 30 degrees.
    D.) 48 degrees.
    E.) 72 degrees.
    F.) 72 degrees.
    3.) Alex’s shape is a Pentagon. Tommy’s shape is a hexagon. Dora’s shape is a Triangle.

    1. Mr Patel

      Good answers.

Can you explain each of these?

  10. Humza H.

1.Square this is because you can fit 4 equal triangles in there this is because a square is all equal.
2.Octoan this is because it has 8 sides.
    3.Heptagon 900 degrees

    1. Mr Patel

Very brief. Have you answered all of the questions?

  11. Barkad S.

    1)hexagon
    2)octagon
    3)heptagon
the sum interior angle of heptagon is 900 degrees

    1. Mr Patel

      Thank you.

    Her shape is a hexagon
    His shape is an octagon
    Her shape is a heptagon

    1. Mr Patel

Think you have got these all correct – well done.
Are you able to ‘reason’ your answers please? This will help with your understanding.

      1. Mustafa G.

Her shape is a hexagon because if you split a polygon into 4 triangles it is a hexagon.
His shape is an octagon because the sum of the interior angles in an octagon is 1080 degrees.
Her shape is a heptagon because it has more sides than Rosie but less than Amir and that turns out to be a heptagon.

        1. Mr Patel

          Explained well.

  14. Safa H.

    1) Hexagon
    2) Octagon
    3) Heptagon
    4) 210ยฐ
    5) 144ยฐ

    1. Mr Patel

Where is your explanations? Please can you do this? Will help with your learning.

  15. Muhammad G.

    Gold
    1) Rosie drew a hexagon.
    2) Amir drew an octagon.
    3) Eva drew a heptagon. The internal angles of a heptagon add up to 900ยฐ.

    1. Mr Patel

Good – Have you completed all of Mrs Hurt’s questions?
