6Red’s Science Experiment 🌱

This half term our science unit is ‘Nature Library’ in this unit we will be learning all about our surroundings. This week we kick started our learning by conducting a scientific experiment.

Enquiry question: What effect does fertiliser have on the growth of Radish seeds?

Below is a video showcasing children in Six Red conducting the experiment.

https://youtu.be/peAEEChDZKQ

Recap: Under which conditions do seeds germinate?

Main Task: Write a scientific prediction sharing what effect you think the fertiliser will have on the radish growth (Do you think the more fertiliser the better growth?) (Do you think fertiliser is a myth and it will have no effect on the growth of radish?)

Challenge: Fertiliser research (What is fertiliser? Why is it used? How many types are there? How does it support or prevent plant growth?)

Key Vocabulary: radish, germination, photosynthesis, growth, experiment, soil, fertiliser pellets, larger, greener, tastier.

    Super responses everyone. Well done

  2. Hayyan S.

    Main task:
The fertiliser will help it grow because it’s going to eat it and that how it would grow like us when we eat we grow so that’s how fertiliser works.

Fertiliser is a chemical or natural substance added to soil or land to increase its fertility. Fertilizers are used daily by farmers and families to help crops and gardens grow. Whether for a small garden of flowers and plants, or a large farm with thousands of acres of crops, a wide range of fertilizers have been developed to help different crops grow in different soil and weather conditions. There are two main types of fertilisers: inorganic (man-made) and organic (derived from plant or animal). If the soil is low on nitrogen, fertilizers are needed to boost nutritional levels. The correct use of fertilizers help plants absorb it through the soil and ensures a high production and rapid growth.

    Main task:
The effect of fertiliser won’t make the radish grow taller.the more fertiliser wouldn’t make it grow. If you don’t use fertiliser It will still grow.
    Things flowers needs:
    Direct Sunlight
    Water
Fertiliser is a type of poo
    Types of flowers:
    Balloon Flower
    Rose
    Sunflower
    Catmint
    Chives
    California Poppy
    Boneset

We’re using sunlight water nutrients and I heard horses poo called fertilisers to help the plants grow

Enquiry question: Fertiliser will have a big impact on the radish seeds because if we add to much it may start to not grow properly but we are testing different amounts of fertiliser and seeing how it impacts the radishes.
Main task: I predict after more than 3 fertiliser pellets, it would actually make the radishes grow more slower, I think this because maybe the plants may take in too much fertiliser at 1 time and might not be getting enough sunlight and moisture. This will also effect the photosynthesis.

    The plants need water,direct sunlight

Enquiry question -Fertiliser has a big effect on the growth of radish seeds because we are testing to see if fertiliser will help the radish seed grow faster or to see if the other radish plant grows better without the fertiliser.
Seeds germinate under the conditions of sunlight how hot or cool it is (temperature) , water and nutrients.

Main task : I think that maybe the radish seed that does not contain fertiliser, will grow slowly but not that health it would be in normal condition.
But for the plant that has fertiliser it would grow very healthy and would grow faster.

    Challenge:
Fertiliser is chemical or natural substance added to soil or land to increase its fertility and health.

Enquiry question : Fertiliser has a big effect on the growth of radish seeds because we are testing to see if fertiliser will help the radish seed grow quicker or to see if we put no fertiliser it will grow slower.

Seed germinate under the conditions of sunlight temperature , water and nutrients.

Main task : My scientific prediction is maybe the radish seed that has not fertiliser will grow normally like other seeds with no fertiliser but the radish seed with the most fertiliser will be more fresher , tastier and grow more faster because fertiliser helps a plant become more healthy .

    Challenge
Fertiliser is a plant food that helps farmers or others , who garden help their seeds or crops grow better . Fertiliser is used to help seeds form to become stronger and healthier plants . The are two main types of fertilisers are inorganic and organic . Inorganic is a manmade fertiliser and a Organic fertiliser comes from a plant or animal ‘s nutrients . Plant fertiliser was made in the 19th century , which was discovered by Justus Von Leibig .

The seeds germinate under the conditions of…warmth, light, oxygen and moisture. In my opinion I think the fertiliser will speed up the process of the plant growing and give the plant more nutrients. fertiliser is a chemical or a natural substance added to soil or land to increase it’s fertility. the different types of fertilisers I know about are organic fertiliser, inorganic fertiliser, chemical nitrogenous fertilizer, phosphate fertiliser and potassium fertiliser.

the seeds germinate under these conditions
    sunlight
    water
    nutrients

I think Fertilisers provides elements needed by plants to grow well, such as nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium.

fertiliser is a type of poo

it is used to help plants grow

There are two main types of fertilisers: inorganic (man-made) and organic (derived from plant or animal).

it supports them by giving them nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium
