6W 7/5/20-Science (Planning your ride)

Earlier in the week you began collecting materials from home, your garden, your daily walks and recycled objects in preparation to create a roller coaster.

Today your task is to begin planning your roller coaster design. To do this you need to draw your design and annotate it. You need to write a set of instructions for yourself.

A picture of your plan NEEDS to be emailed to- y6upload@broadheath.coventry.sch.uk

Instructions need to be written on the blog comment.

Below are ideas of roller coasters made by children- these ideas are here to inspire you and guide you to create your own.

  1. You will need
    Paper
    Toilet Roll
    Kitchen Roll
    Tape
    Glue (If needed)

Step 1. Get the paper and cut it into a track.
Step 2. Get cardboard of a kitchen roll or tin foil and try use it as the legs for the structure.
Step 3. Then stick the track and legs together.
Step 4. Make sure it has a few loops and it is straight at the end to stop.
Step 5: Decorate how you want

    • A good try Sunny but you need to be a bit more specific with your instruction as this has to work. For example ‘then stick the track’ with what? Be clear with instructions so they can be followed.

  2. You will need:
    Cardboard
    Paper(white & coloured)
    Scissors
    Glue
    Tape

    Step 1
.Take your piece of paper and cut out a thick strip of it.
    Step2
.Take the sides of your paper length-wise and fold the ends.
    Step 3
.Once you have done that bend the paper into any curved shape you like and hold togather with tape.
    Step 4
.Repeat this until you have enough roller coaster tracks.
    Step 5
.Now assemble your roller coaster into one big piece with sticky tape.
    Step 6
.Take a small amount of cardboard and turn it into a thin cuboid for the support at the start of the coaster.
    Step 7
.Finally take a large flat piece of cardboard and hold your model down with sticky tape, decorate it and you are officially down.

  3. Step 1:
First you will need to get some paper and cut it into a larger piece so you can make a track.
    Step 2:
Get some cardboard and make a pole with the cardboard to get your roller coaster to have structure and then it will not fall down.
    Step 3:
Then stick the roller coaster to the pole and to the paper tracks.
    Step 4:
    Decorate and enjoy

  4. Plan:
    You will need:
    Paper
    toilet rolls
    Tape
    Glue
    Boxes e.g card board boxes.

    How to build it:
    1. You will put 1 of the boxes standing upright.
    2. Then you will cut a piece of paper in a downward slope.
    3. After that you will place it on the cardboard and stick them together.
    4. Once you have done that then you will use the paper to make a little straight road and tape it together.
    5. After that you will Use the toilet rolls as a loop de loop and stick it on the ride.
    6. Finally, you will make a straight path and that will conclude the ride.

  5. What you will need: You can also use:
    . Paper. . Juice cartons
    . Cardboard . Cereal boxes.
    . Scissors
    . Tape/ Glue
Step 1: You have to cut the paper into a larger version of the slope then you have to flatten the edges.
Step 2: As you are making the slopes you can add a loop de loop if you would like to.
Step 3. Make a pole to start sticking and taping your parts of the roller coaster into.
Step 4: A just this all together the way you would like it .
Step 5: Decorate your Rollercoaster the way you would like and then your done.
I will send my drawing later on.

    • These aren’t too clear or specific Laraib! Try again?
If I flowed these word for word I think I’d end up with a mess not a rollercoaster!

      • Ok.
        Step 1:
You have to get the paper and cut it into a larger piece of the track.
        Step 2:
Get cardboard and make a pole to get your roller coaster to have structure.
        Step 3:
Start to stick or tape the parts of the roller coaster to the pole and to the tracks.
        Step 4:
Put this all together and it should have tracks in a swirly shape.
        Step 5:
Decorate how you would like and you are done.
