Tuesday 2nd June – Year 5 Project Week: Entrepreneur Week Outline & Expectations

Hello Year 5’s! I hope you are all well and had a lovely half term. We are now entering Summer 2, our final term of the academic year! As usual, we would normally start off the term with a project week. And yes, the project week (as you have probably guessed from the big title above) is ‘Entrepreneur Week’.

Some of you may be looking at the title and thinking ‘whattttt? An Entrepreneur?! This is going to be tough! What does that mean?! But do not worry! I want you to show a growth mindset and resilience, as a positive and open minded approach to the project week will benefit you massively in your progress and understanding.

A note of caution: In order to complete this project week successfully, you will need to make sure you are completing every daily task in order. If you miss a task, this will hinder the overall outcome and you will fall behind. If you fall behind, it is your responsibility to catch up and complete the work from the previous day(s)!

The Theme of the Week:

Year 5, your goal by the end of the week is to design, create and test a garden game, which should be playable according to social distancing rules.

This project week will be broken down into various categories over the course of the week, which are listed below. These are the questions you will be answering with each task you complete.

  • Tuesday: ‘Think it’ – Start to think and gather ideas of an Entrepreneur in your head, what they do? How they think? and getting into an Entrepreneur’s mindset. Also, start to think about ideas about ‘what makes a good garden game?’

  • Tuesday: ‘Research it’ – Researching about different garden games and getting an idea of the ‘games market’ – what is a popular garden game? What is social distancing?

  • Wednesday: ‘Research it’ – Gathering market research and opinions on the different games and using your information to produce statistics (i.e. graphs)

  • Wednesday: ‘Plan it’ – Begin to use your research and data to plan your own game with your own resources that are around you. How will you create a successful game that follows social distancing rules?

  • Thursday: ‘Make it’ – You will create and make your game and perfect your design if there are any errors or changes that need to be made.

  • Thursday ‘Play it’ – You will play your game!

  • Friday: ‘Pitch it’ – You will pitch (present) your new game design to the Year 5 teachers, in the TV programme, ‘Dragons Den’ style, which you will find out more about on the day!

Happy Entrepreneur-ing! As a team, we are looking forward to seeing your amazing designs and ideas! The values we will be focusing on are: Creativity, Imagination and Perseverance!

You need to make sure you do every days worth of work as this is one big project Sarina. You need to start on Tuesday’s work and then Wednesdays and finally do today’s. Tomorrow you will be asked to create a business pitch for your game.

A good game for you to play outdoors in your garden, have to make sure you have enough space and distance amongst each other. Make it fun, safe, and use materials or items you have in your house
    If you can.

A good garden game would need a good spot to do it. A good garden game would also need snacks if a game takes a long time or if a player is hungry and you would need 4-16 players to play the game if you want more than its the person khow decided to play the game to choose.

    1. Mr Mashford

How will you make sure the snacks are safe for people to get to socially distanced etc. Luqman?

  10. Abdirahman M.

Yes I learnt some garden games are not that famous and the are not popular

    1. Mr Mashford

Can you give examples of the games you’re talking about Abdi?

    2. Mrs Khan

Abdi, please read what the task is asking you to do. It is good you know some games are not popular and some are but look at each task. You need to look at games where you can social distance and ones you cannot. Draw this in a venn diagram.

    I’ve done the research

    1. Hishaam

So one of the most fun are strategy games like hide and seek, tag and more. These are the most popular because it’s very hard for little people under 8 years but it is for fun so if I make a garden game it will include hiding and running also I might add a bit of puzzle-like riddles.

      1. Hishaam

        sorry I accidentally posted it.

So I also found out how to make a very good garden game, so first there will have to be more than 4-16 people to play so there are 2-5 teams of 3 and 1 is the riddle asker so each team has an object like a toy or a piece of equipment so to play you will have to try to capture the other teams base toy and bring it back to your base to eliminate their team but it’s not that easy along everyone’s path there’s a wizard in the middle of the routes and while you’re trying to capture the base if they catch you then you’ll have to go to their Prison and your teammates have to rescue you and the last team will win.

        1. Miss Bhangu

Good idea Hishaam. Can you tell me whether this is social distancing or not? Have a think about it.

          1. Hishaam

we are going toΒ be 2 metres apart we have a ball to throw at the trapped teammate and if he cant catch it he won’t be rescued we each will have our own places.
