  1. A Monster Calls is a fantasy novel written for young adults by Patrick Ness, from an original idea by Siobhan Dowd, illustrated by Jim Kay and published by Walker in 2011. It features a boy who struggles to cope with the consequences of his mother’s illness.

Every night ,Connor woken up screaming. One night at exactly 12:07 a.m., a voice calls him from the window. When Conor opens the window, he sees a monster formed from a twisted mass of branches and leaves, a yew tree. The monster is curious why the boy is not afraid of him. He tells Conor that Conor summoned him, and now that he has, the monster will tell him three true stories.

I have learnt that it is hard for some people suffering from a rare illness, but never stop believing in your self. And it is hard for some people who have lost someone that they are really close to so they would react a little depressed and let down.

  2. It was so fun today with all my other friends and fa also there was lots of interesting clothes they were so clever also there was some people wearing great clothes.

    • We were making the monster tree
Firs we used an iPad so we can draw over the tree then we colored wax crayon in his hole body then we painted it.
Then we had a paintbrush to put water over it then we blowed it in a straw
And that’s how you make it

  3. Patrick Ness’ A Monster Calls is the story of a young boy who is coping with the diagnosis of his mother’s cancer. Connor, the main character the in the novel, is a thirteen-year-old, ordinary boy who is having to deal with extraordinary problems within his life. Every night he had the same nightmare, the one in the graveyard. He receives assistance from his grandma and his father and another strange creature that came knocking on his bedroom window one night. Patrick Ness takes the final idea of the late, award-winning writer Siobhan Dowd, who unfortunately never had a chance to complete her book because she suffered from cancer, and weaves a heartbreaking tale of the courage it takes to survive.

  4. I have gained more knowledge about people with cancer and how people around are affected and what there feelings are and how they cope with the disease.
