Literacy

Our Literacy units this half term will be biographies and autobiographies. We will also be focusing on using a different style of writing depending on the audience, using a range of punctuation in our writing and using precise vocabulary to create an effect our story writing.

 

Each week you will be set a piece of homework to support the previous week’s learning. This homework may be sent home in the homework folders, posted on the blog or be available on ‘I am learning’.

You will also be expected to practice your weekly spellings, read your reading book daily, complete activities in your reading diary and contribute to our class blog.

Maths

In Maths this half term we will be focusing on applying our number knowledge to using fractions, decimals and percentages. We will be consolidating and further developing methods and concepts learnt in year 5 and introducing the children to new concepts such as algebra and ratio and proportion.

Science

Our Science unit this half term is The Nature Library. We will be learning about how plants and animals and other living things such as micro-organisms are classified into groups.

Topic

Our Topic this half term is based on Mountains. We will be learning about how mountains are formed, mapping different mountain ranges across the world and will gain first hand experience when we visit Thorpe Cloud in the Peak District.

PSHE: Our SEAL unit this half term is Getting on and falling out.

You will be set a piece of SEAL homework in Week 6. This may be posted on the class blog.

ICT: ICT this half term will be taught through the core subjects. We will be using a range of ICT programs to support the learning and we will develop reading skills through ICT.

PE: Our PE units this half term will be Swimming and Hockey.
