Children return to school Mon 8th April

In Art this half term we are learning about Batik. As we can see from these photos, batiks are used for clothing as well as decoration and home furnishings as made famous by David Beckham in the 1990s!

What have you learnt about batik? Which designs do you prefer? What theme will you use for your own design?

Batik designs are very colourful and have a wide range of shapes on them. They are usually made out of wax however in Africa they are made out of sand. Some have different patterns like one may have flowers but others may have random shapes or something. In class we had to draft a few batik designs in our art book and choose one to use for when we do make it. I did to one with lots of dimonds and colours but I also made one with a turtle 🐢! They are all really different and therefore unique.

I have learnt that the Batik designs often have lots of flowers on them and that they are bright and colorful. I prefer the flower design on Batik, I will definitely be using a flower pattern. 🏵🌸🌹🌼🌺

Batik is a “resist” process for making designs on fabric. The artist uses wax to prevent dye from penetrating the cloth, leaving “blank” areas in the dyed fabric. The process, wax resist then dye, can be repeated over and over to create complex multi colored designs.🌹🌷🌺🌸🌻💐🌸🌺🌼🌷

i like the one Lataya is wearing since it has intricate designs and you can see the unique meanings of each symbol it is one of the many good batik designs but i will be using one of my own less detailed simpler designs for our batik designs.

What I have learnt about Batik and what I found really interesting was that they use wax to pour onto the fabric to make the design and then they dye the rest of the fabric to make the pattern. They then later peel off the wax and they are left with a beautiful design! My favourite design is the one which is held up by Lataya and Deniss because it has repeating but attractive designs. For my Batik, i will make sure to include something abstract and unique so that people will be wanting to come and look at it more.

My faviourte is the one which Lataya is wearing it has good designs and I really like it because of the pictures are different to the ones which we now have however we learnt that they were made out of wax but in Africa it is made of sand. The differences are that it has some dull colours and some light colours for example white and blue but maybe now it is brighter colours.
