Bit of Fun! Would you like to be a millionaire?

You have to decide which option to choose if…

(a) I offered to give you £1,000,000 in cash, tomorrow or…

(b) I offered to give you 1p today and the amount doubled for the next 28 days!

Write your posts below of which one you would prefer. The first person to calculate and post how much money the second offer would get you will get a prize! Good luck, it’s harder than it might look! You can use a calculator if you wish. It’s just a bit of fun so give it a try!

(Just for the record, my current finances make this maths problem hypothetical; maybe one day though)!!

You can’t do one doubled i am guessing. That’s my theory.
Good Luck trying to work this out. :D

• Abdalla Abdulhamid

Oops you can do one doubled.
1+2+4+8+16+32+64+128+256+512+1024+2048+4096+8192+16384+32768+65536+131072+262144+524288

Yes but thinking never killed anyone! Never give up, PERSEVERE, you will be better for trying!

• Abdalla Abdulhamid

It was actually really hard and I didn’t have time to finish it

• Richard Inman

Good effort!! I calculated it by putting all of the numbers into a excel spread sheet!! It took me a long time too!! Your strategy looks good, although don’t forget about the decimals!!

• Mehrish Iqbal

I think you can double it Abdalla

• Abdirahman Mumin

theres no theory abdalla

I would choose A because I would get a £1,000,000. I wouldn’t choose B because it is less amount. For B you would only get 57p. I would get 57p ; you do 28px2=56+1p=57p.

13. Alina Hussain

I would choose B because I would Gert more than a million pound s. :). :). :)

14. Alina Hussain

Is it 28000000

(a) I offered to give you £1,000,000 in cash, tomorrow or…
£50 6 times

(b) I offered to give you 1p today and the amount doubled for the next 28 days!
2p x 28=56+1=57p

Wow Sanam, some wildly varied answers there! From £2.70 to £134 million pounds! Answers will be revealed in school when someone gets ot correct. Writing your method would be good!

• Mehrish Iqbal

18. Mehrish Iqbal

I would choose the one that says I offered to give you 1p today and the amount doubled for the next 28 days! i am just calculating the answer…..
