Children return to school Mon 8th April

Throughout history, people have been treated differently because of the colour of their skin.

Black people were not seen as equal and were not treated in the same way as white people. For example, they had to sit in different seats on a bus or public places like the cinema.

Lots of people knew that this was wrong and wanted things to change. In 1926, in America, a man called Carter G. Woodson introduced a “Negro History Week,” which later turned into Black History Month.

In 1987, the first Black History Month took place in the UK.

This is a brilliant month for EVERYONE to scrub up their knowledge of our history and learn more about how we became a country, city and a school who celebrates diversity and respect!

This week your adults have shared a presentation introducing the Black History Month challenge. this October, you are all challenged to identify a person or people who you believe made a significant difference in Black History.

You are allowed to work in pairs, siblings or independently and present the information way in whatever way you wish.
Be creative, here are some suggestions for you to think about; informative posters, a booklet, a recorded presentation, a quiz game, painting, poetry, news report etc etc etc.

Use the following link to start your research, there are also books in the library.
