Bonfire and Diwali

As part of our new topic on ‘Fantastic Light’ the children in Reception White begun the week by learning about bonfire night. They developed an understanding of why bonfire night is celebrated. The children then went outdoors to create their own mini bonfires and even got the opportunity to experience a real bonfire. During the week the children took part in lots of fun activities based around fireworks. They created some fantasic firework pictures using a range of art media, they described their own fireworks using adjectives and even pretended to be a whizzing firework rocket.

During this week it was also Diwali, the children learnt about the Diwali story and why Diwali is celebrate. The children celebrate Diwali by learning some bhangra dance move, they created and decorated some lovely diva lamps as well as re-enacting the diwali story.
