In this blog, we will be showcasing the children’s best work they have completed for different subjects in Spring 1.

Well done to the children who have produced these fantastic pieces of work during the half term.

Greatest Mathematician

This half term, year 4 have continued to work on multiplication and division. They started off by using their multiplication knowledge to explore factor pairs. Moving on from this, year 4 explored various written methods of multiplication. Once the children were confident, they used all the skills learned to multiply three digit numbers by one digit numbers using the formal method. Ending this unit, year 4 moved on to using different ways to divide three digit numbers by one digit numbers by the end of the unit the children we were able to solve correspondence problems using the bus stop method.

After year 4 moved on to area. They started off by learning how to calculate area of 2D shapes. Next, the children studied how to make rectilinear shapes using a given number of squares. To finish the unit off year 4 compared area of rectilinear shapes using the greater, less than and equal symbols.

English Superstar

This half term in English, year 4 have learned to write part of a story with a historical setting. Linking English to our Topic unit, we wrote part of a story focusing on the Coventry Blitz. To start the unit, we identified the key features of a historical story. We then learned to understand and apply historical vocabulary to use in our writing. To prepare for our story writing, we identified interesting words and phrases that captivated readers interests, descriptive language and fronted adverbials. Using all these features we planned and wrote a story from a historical settings.

To finish the term, year 4 learned how to write a newspaper article. Again, we linked this to our WW2 Topic unit and wrote our newspaper articles about the Coventry Blitz. Before we wrote our articles, we looked at the key features of a newspaper article. Then looked at the differences between reported and direct speech. Using Purple Mash we drafted a copy of our newspaper article before presenting them in best.

Topic & Science Stars

In science this term, year 4 have been learning about electrical circuits. We started off by identifying common appliances that run on electricity. We then had a go at making our own electrical circuit using an online construction kit. Next, we learned about the job of a switch and understood that the cell is a power source. Using our previous learning we wrote an information text about electricity. Using the online construction kit we conducted an investigation by testing different materials to see if they were insulators or conductors before writing up our findings. To finish of this unit, we constructed simple circuits naming basic parts and identified and corrected problems in a circuit.

In Topic this term, we leaned about WW2 but more specifically the Coventry Blitz. We started off by making enquires from historical sources. Next, we ordered the WW2 events chronologically. We then independently researched how WW2 effected life in England so we could understand the cause and consequence of the event. After this we looked more into the Coventry Blitz and how it impacted the people of Coventry. Using all we learned over the term the children wrote a diary entry as an evacuee.

TTRS ‘Super Rocker’

Year 4 have been continuing to practise their times tables. We have been participating in lots of competitions and successfully won against year 3! The children have also enjoyed competing within the year group making learning our times table more fun!

Our ‘Rockers of the Week’ this term are Lillie, Luxor, Umar and Faizaan! Well done!!

However the overall rockstar of the term having spent more time of TTRS than any other child in 4 Red and having accumulated a huge amount of points for the competitions is:

Faizaan!

Online Learning Champion

Lillie is 4 Red’s Learning Champion this term! We really cannot praise her efforts enough. She has consistently put well above and beyond not only into her work and presentation, but into her own learning. She has displayed an ability to independently research and produce work in a creative and suitable way well above many university students.

Blogger of the term

Zakariah is our blogger of the term and wow is it deserved! To write this I searched his name on our blog posts and our file share point and the amount of work, effort, time and research is breathtaking. Within his blog responses he has combined individual thought, logic, suitable research and a real consideration of presentation of his information. From a teacher’s perspective, when you see his name pinging through his work, you know that only one thing is coming: quality.
