Homework in Year 6

This is just a quick reminder about Year 6 homework to make sure everyone is aware of the expectations.

During curriculum weeks 1-5, we give out homework every Friday. We expect it to be brought back by the next Wednesday at the latest- this gives us time to look at the work and prepare the homework books for the next week. We are more than happy if you want to bring homework back earlier though!

Teachers will select homework which consolidates work from the previous week, helps to prepare children for the coming week or supports children in their SATs revision. Homework will be set either in homework books, on the school Blog or on one of the websites Broad Heath subscribe to. Homework is always explained on the same day it is given out so all children know what they have to do.

If your child is still unsure about their homework, we will be more than happy to go through this again. Should your child be off school for any reason, we will go through the homework and discuss an appropriate time for this to be brought in.

As Year 6 is a particularly important year in your child’s preparation for secondary school, it is expected that they will undertake extra, self-directed research and revision in addition to their weekly homework. This will be vital in the pupils developing the skills, independence and growth mindset necessary to succeed at secondary school and in the future.

If you have any questions, please speak to your class teacher.

Thank you,

Year 6 Teachers
