Children return to school Mon 8th April

Hello BH family, hope you all well and staying safe… It’s very strange not being at school and seeing all your lovely smiles and hearing your polite greetings. I hope you are all well and staying safe. I hope to see you all back at school very soon.
So, in the Browning house over the past week it has smelt like a bakery, we have made Bacon & Cheese plaits, Cookies, a Victoria sponge, Cinnamon whirls, Pretzels, Millionaire Sponge Cake but the most popular recipe, has to be Shortbread biscuits and I have to say it’s the best as it’s my favourite biscuit!

So, I thought I would share with you all, a simple recipe that you can enjoy with your families. You must follow the instructions carefully for them to turn out as yummy as mine. There are a few little questions along the way for you older children to answer. Year 2, I expect you to be great at this as we have learnt about following instructions recently in English.

Do I need a title? What could it be?

What you will need:
•Bowl,
•Wooden spoon- (Or a fancy food mixing machine),
•Baking tray,
•Grease proof paper,
•Rolling pin
Ingredients
•125g Butter,
•55g Caster Sugar – (a little extra for sprinkling)
•180g Plain flour.

What could I put here?… What would explain to the reader which part of the text comes next?

1.FirstWash your hands thoroughly and carefully heat your oven to gas mark 5 or 190C.(Make sure an adult does this for you.)

2.Nextadd the butter and sugar together and vigorously mix until a soft, smooth paste .

3.Thenstir in the flour until the mixture forms a dough. Slowly move your stickywet mixture onto your work surface, you may need to sprinkle a little extra flour on your tabletop or rolling pin to prevent from clinging. Gently, roll until your dough is about 1cm thick.

4.After that, cover the baking tray with greaseproof paper and steadily transfer the dough onto the tray. Cut, the dough into rounds or fingers. Delicatelyprick with a fork and generously sprinkle sugar on top. Place the tray on a shelf in the fridge and chill for 20 minutes.

5.Finally, bake in the oven for another 15-20 minutes until you have a yummy, mouthwatering aroma wafting from your kitchen and your biscuits are palegolden brown. Cautiously, take the biscuits out of the oven (you will need an adult to help with this.) Leave to cool and then enjoy!

What key features are needed in an instruction text? Can anyone identify what key features I have used? I hope you enjoy making these shortbread biscuits as much as my family & I did.
