Making arrays in 3 Blue

This week in maths, 3 Blue have been making arrays to help them to multiply. We made arrays in many different ways. We used cubes, bean bags, paint, stickers and humans!

Can you answer these word problems using arrays?

Luxor was planting a garden. He planted 3 rows of onions. He planted 6 in each row. How many onions did he plant altogether?

Safa was making pizza for a party. She arranged the pizza into 8 rows. She put 3 pizzas in each row. How many pizzas did she make?

Faizan says that 8×8 is greater than 2 lots of 4×8. Do you agree? Why?

      A) 3 x 6 = 18 onions.
Safa was making pizza for a party. She arranged the pizza into 8 rows. She put 3 pizzas in each row. How many pizzas did she make?
      A) 8 x 3 = 24 pizza’s.
Faizan says that 8×8 is greater than 2 lots of 4×8. Do you agree? Why?
      A) I dissagree because 8 x 8 = 64 and 4 x 8 = 32 and 2 lots would be 32 x 2 = 64. So they are equal.

    1. Luxor had 18 because 6 times 3 =18
    2. Safa had 24 because 8 times 3 = 24
    3. Faizan is correct because 8times 8 = 64 and 4times 8 = 32

Read the third question carefully. Where have you gone wrong?
