Last week, Year 2 carried out an experiment to test hygiene and germs. We used potatoes to test germs on different surfaces.

Potato 1: Control potato

Potato 2: Our hands

Potato 3: The floor

Potato 4: The toilet

We looked at the potatoes a week later, after they had been kept in the cupboard.
We investigated together, observing and describing the changes. This included how they look, feel and smell.

Which potato was the cleanest? How do you know?
Which potato was the dirtiest? How do you know?
What have you learnt about hygiene and germs?

The cleanest potato was the hand one because we washed our hands before we touch the potato.
The dirtiest potato was the toilet one because the toilet is the dirtiest object it has germs and bacteria on it.
I have learnt about bacteria makes you ill because the virus makes you ill. But to avoid bacteria and germs is by washing your hands and having a bath.

Have a think about which potato had the least germs.
Remember, we had four separate ones:
      Control, Hands, Floor and Toilet.
Thank you for sharing what you have learnt Sara.
