Our Solar System

Space

Hello Year 5,

This term our topic is Space and our Solar System.  Lets see how many of you can remember what we have found out so far.  Can you answer the following questions:-

1) How long does it take for the Sun to orbit around the Earth?

2) What percentage of Earth is water?

3) Why does the planet Mercury have nothing living on it?

4) Which is larger the Sun or the Moon and how big is one of them compared to the other?

5) What do all the planets have in common apart from our planet Earth?

What else do you know about our Solar System.  See if you can find something interesting to share with the class.

Go on be a STAR.

  1. CHALLENGE:

Astronomers have found at least 146 moon’s orbiting planets in our solar system.

After earth, mars is the most hospitable climate in the solar system

  2. 1)It take 365.25 days for the sun to orbit round earth
    2)70% of earth is water
3)Nobody lives in mercury because mercury has NO atmosphere and no warming blankets to maintain heat. This is caused by,mercury being to close to the sun
4)The diameter of the sun is 400 times bigger than the moon’s,which makes the sun 400 times bigger than the moon
5)The planets are named after Roman and Greek gods and goddesses on the other hand, earth doesn’t

  3. 1) How long does it take for the Sun to orbit around the Earth?

It takes 365.25 days for the Earth to orbit around the sun.

    2) What percentage of Earth is water?

it takes about 70% of the earths

    3) Why does the planet Mercury have nothing living on it?
because it is the closest planet to the sun

    4) Which is larger the Sun or the Moon and how big is one of them compared to the other?

The sun is bigger than the moon. It is about 400 times bigger.

    5) What do all the planets have in common apart from our planet Earth?

Are planet is the only planet with animals. are planet is not named after a roman or Greek god.

  4. 1) How long does it take for the Sun to orbit around the Earth? 24 hours

    2) What percentage of Earth is water? 70%

    3) Why does the planet Mercury have nothing living on it?
It is the closest to the sun.
    4) Which is larger the Sun or the Moon and how big is one of them compared to the other? The sun is larger . it is 400 times compared to the moon.

  5. This is the rest of my answer.
4.The sun is bigger than the moon because all stars are big but did you know that the sun is a dwarf star.
5.Every planet except from ours has not got living creatures on but Earth does. Also Earth was not named after a roman or greek god.

  6. 1) It takes 365.25 days for the Sun to orbit around then Earth.

    2) Earth takes up 70% of water.

    3) Mercury has no one living on it because it is so close to the sun.

    4) The Sun is bigger than the Moon, the Sun is 400 times larger than the Moon.

    5) The Planets have in Common that no one is ever going to live on it whereas we have people living on Earth.

There is an asteroid belt which lies between the orbits or Mars and Jupiter, it has different shapes and sizes of asteroid.
The Solar System formed around 4.6 billion years ago.
The four inner planets are Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars while the four outer planets are Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune.
The inner planets (also known as terrestrial planets) are smaller and made mostly of rock and metal.
The outer planets (also known as gas giants) are much larger and made mostly of hydrogen, helium and other gases.
In 2008,there were also five dwarf planets: Pluto, Ceres, Eris, Makemake & Haumea.

  7. 1.The sun takes 365.25 days to orbit the earth.
2.70% of the earth is made out of water that is why our planet is so blue.
3.Mercury has nothing living on it because it is too cloSe to the sun anyone would die on Mercury.

  8. Question 1:It takes about three hundred and sixty five . 25 days!(365.25)!
Question 2:About seventy one percent(71%)is water. If you put the earths water and lakes and streams etc.,out of our world, from space the Earth would look like venus.creamy!
Question 3:mercury is so close to the sun.Hence no living thing couled live there!
Question 4:The sun is bigger than the moon.this is because all stars are huge compared to planets. But , did you know that the sun is a dwarf star(a small star). If you compared it to one of the biggest STARS KNOWN, it is almost nothing. The comparison , is 400 x!
Question 5:The planets have in commen , is that you cant live on them .froget about mercury. It is blazing.Venus is just too hot and mars is too cold.Erth has all the elements to make it possilbe to live(earth, fire, water and wind).
Bonus!:DID you know that saturn would never of had rings if two moons never had a collision (crash). The moons turn into scrap.and gradully gravity pulled it arouned saturn!

  9. 1) It takes 365.25 days for the sun to orbit the earth.
    2) The percent of earths water is about 70%
    3) Nobody lives on planet Mercury because it is close to the sun. Therefore no one lived on Mercury.
    4) The sun is bigger than the moon , it is about 400 times bigger than the moon.
    5) All of the planets have roman and Greek god and goddesses however earth dose not

  10. I hope to see a lot more work displayed on the background with all your answers and thoughts. I look forward to seeing the display grow with answers!
