Recently I have had many parents come to me asking for their children not to go outside as it is too cold! Can I just take this opportunity to share with you some of the wonderful things we do outside, and how exciting this weather can be!
We walked all the way to the top of the field and wrote phonemes and numbers in the frost.
We used sticks and our fingers to help us develop our writing skills and our fine motor skills, and we read back each others work. It was so much fun, and not one Nursery star complained about the cold.
Something FANTASTIC happened to our outdoor water tray, it completely froze!
We got to feel how hard and slippy the ice was. Many children developed their language skills and communicated well with their friends when taking it in turns to feel the ice.
Lots of the children told me it looked magical, even like the castle in Frozen!
We went out again after snack and saw that the ice was beginning to melt! We all got to see it turn to water and saw just how beautiful the pieces of ice were.
Can I remind parents that the children in Nursery choose to go outside, and love the equipment, experiences and space that there is to offer in our outdoor area.
Please send your child to Nursery in weather appropriate clothes and encourage them to put on their own coats, hats, gloves and scarfs, and no child will go cold.
