Red 5’s Boating Blog

Hi Red 5,

On Wednesday, you designed a boat built for speed and efficiency in order to try and affect forces of water resistance, air resistance and upthrust.

I would like you please to answer the following questions in full sentences – you may need to do some extra research:

  1. What is a force?
  2. What is water resistance and how does it affect boats?
  3. What is upthrust and how does it affect boats?
  4. What is air resistance and how does it affect boats?

Based on your answers to those questions, I would like you compose a short advert for the best boat design you can think of. You may use your ideas from Wednesday, but you will need to improve it based on what you find. Your job is to create a persuasive advert, describing what the boat is like and why (with reference to forces) it is so fast and efficient.

Be creative, be precise and be persuasive!

I look forward to seeing what you come up with!

  1. 1. Force means its keeps things moving, stajing still , makes things float or keeps ir stil on the ground but not going true them.
2.Water rezistan is ar force that p’uls things back in the water like ai resistance.
3.Upthrust keepps things flying or floating.Theeffect of upthrust is that it keeps it floating but not only one force iz used to makeit float it also useis graviti ti make it flote but the forces must be balenc!
4.Air resistanc is same just like ater resistanc but it only works in air an pu’sis things back when its moveing. On the boat it might be working to gethet ti pu’s it bach but it can’t because its too powerful.
Sorry doing ir lait but am glad I did it at least :( :)

  2. 1)Force is the strength or energy that attributes of an phsical action or movement.
2)Water resistance is a type of friction. It is a pulling force.
3)Up thrust pushes you up so it makes you float.
4)Air resistance is a pushing force. It pushes you back.

  4. Force is an enegy that create movement.
Water resistance is a fictions that stop objects sinking to the bottom such as a boat.
Up thrust affects boats by up in the water.
Air resistance can can lift objects by using fiction.

  5. 1) A force is a push or pull upon an object resulting from the object’s interaction with another object. Whenever there is an interaction between two objects, there is a force upon each of the objects. When the interaction ceases, the two objects no longer experience the force. Forces only exist as a result of an interaction.
    2) That water resistance is a type of friction, when we jump into a swimming pool, it is water resistance that prevents us from hitting the bottom. Water resistance would be able to keep the boat up. This works because, the boat is lighter and aerodynamic which makes it lighter than the volume of the whole water.
    3) Up thrust is the force which pushes upwards enabling the boat to float. Up thrust is a force which only gas and water release. Without up thrust, the boat would sink or any floatable object.
    4) Air resistance is the force which pushes in the opposite direction in the air allowing boats to move. Mainly sail boated. Without air resistance, the sail boat would not be able to move and it would be stationary.

  6. 1. A force is a strength or energy as an attribute of physical action or movement.
    2. Water resistance is a type of friction that prevents different object and creatures such as boats and human bodies from hitting the bottom. It also keeps boats in a position to float on the surface. The greater the surface area of the boat, the more resistance it encounters from the water.
    3. Upthrust is a force that pushes an object up and makes it seem to lose weight in a fluid. So upthrust keeps pushing boats up and prevent them from sinking.
    4. Air resistance is the process of air pushing against a moving object such as a boat sailing in the sea or ocean. The air pushes on the object as the air gets out of the way to let the object through. For example if you have ever been on a boat sailing fast through the sea , you might have felt strong air hitting your face.

Great for holidays , Great for summer time , Great for adventures
Come and buy our amazing speed boat , dream boat. It will never let you down , it will never sink and it will float against strong winds and high waves. It has a sharp pointy bow which slices through water and a flat, wide surface which makes it resist water tricks and rocky icebergs. You can have it for only £100.99p.Come quickly and have it!!!

  7. Force is a strength or energy as an attribute(regard something as being caused by someone or something) of physical action or movement. water resistance is able to resist the penetration(the action or process of making a way through or into something) of water to some degree but not entirely.Upthrust is the upward force that a liquid or gas exerts(apply or bring) on a body floating in it.Air Resistance is a force. It is a force which act in the opposite direction that you are travelling (except in space, where air resistance is non-existent). It is caused by molecules of air colliding with an object, causing it to slow down and eventually stop. Air Resistance can also be known as drag.

Doooon’t forget the speed boat which has not got water resistance because of the curved bit on the bottom which strikes through water. The sharp bow is us to glide through water and nothing will get in its way. NOW £100000! Offer ends this Friday! The first four people will get it free!
Nobody wants to miss this unbelievable chance of getting the boat free.

  8. This boat is designed for speed. It’s sharp bow cuts through the water while it’s metallic edges make the bow even sharper and withstand the air smacking against the side of the boat. The speedboat has many motors to increase speed and will shoot through the water like a javelin being thrown through the air.

  9. 1)A force is something either keeping an item still on a surface or making it move. 2)Water resistance is the force pushing on the boat making it float.
3)Upthrust keeps gravity from becoming too strong and the boat sinking.
4)Air resistance makes the sail on a boat work to decrease the speed.

  10. A force is a moving thing.
The force that is reacting on the boat is water resistance.
If the boat was sinking it would we gravity reacting on it but it,is in mid air so it is up thrust.
Air resistance is a force of strength and energy.it effects by pushing

This boat is designed for speed . It slices through air with a sharp bow.it can float because it is water resistance.it has motor.upthrust is increasing because it is floating not sinking.

    • Dylan, you’ve answered the questions well.
I think you could add much more detail to your advert. Would you buy the boat after reading this advert?
      Miss B

  11. A force is a strength or energy as an attribute of physical action or movement.
water resistance is a force that pushes the water.
up-thrust is a force which makes thee boat not to sink.

    • Hanaan, you’ve answered the questions in simple sentences. I would like to see more detail, and your answers should be relevant to boats and how they are affected by water resistance, up-thrust and air resistance.
      Where is your advert?
      Miss B

  12. Force is the strength or energy as an attribute of physical action or movement

Water resistance his a type of friction. An object can go threw water but it slows it down because it is thick.

Whenever two objects rub against each other, they cause friction. Friction works against the motion and acts in the opposite direction. The amount of friction depends on the materials from which the two surfaces are made. The rougher the surface, the more friction is produced harder to get it moving on a carpet than you would on a wooden floor. This is because there is friction between the carpet and the book than there is between the wood and the book. Boats can easily cut through air. This can pull the boat the opposite direction using a different force.

Objects float in water when their weight is balanced by the upthrust from the water. The object will sink until the weight of the water it pushes out of the way is the same as the weight of the object.

The two forces on a boat are the upthrust of the water and the weight of the boat. Upthrust balences the object stopping it from floating ( helping gravity )

    • Great answers Bukumi, now use the answers to write an advert for a boat that is both fast and efficient and explain it’s features.
      Miss B

  13. What is a Force?
The forces that interact with the boat are forces such as Air resistance ,thrust ,Gravity,Water resistance. Forces are used to keep the boat in a steady position such as gravity and thrust and water resistance aren’t working at the same level the boat will sink or fly in the air.
What is water resistance and how does it affect boats?
Water resistance is a type force that is in water that tries to stop the boat from going forward for example (if you are walking in water or land I would say it would be harder in water because the water resistance would be pushing you back.)
What is upthrust and how does it affect boats?
Up thrust is a force that tries to keep the boat forward and it normally has a bigger force than water resistance so it can push the boat with all its might so a speed for example so it can have speed.

  14. 1. A force is a strength or an energy of a physical movement or action.
    2. Water resistance affects by pulling the force.
    3. If the bout is sinking it will be called gravity and if it was floating it will be called upthrust. It is affecting the boat because if we had upthrust the boat will be floating.
    4. Air resistance is a force of strength and energy when built by speed. It affects the boat by pushing it by the wind speed for the boat to slice through the water.

  15. A force is a strength or energy of a pysical action or a movement.1 2 A water resistance is which pull you back when you swim.it affect the boat because it goes forward. 3 A upthurst is that an air pull an boat because it would float . 4. A air resistance is which pull things like a boats. Come and buy my splendid boat its call sharp bow it cost £50685.99

  16. 1. Force is an interaction that changes the state of an object. It can either slow down an object by pushing in the opposite direction or quicken it by pushing it in the same direction. It can also change direction of a moving object. Force can also deform the shape of the object.

    2. Water resistance is the force exerted by water, on to the object moving in water, in the opposite direction of its motion. Its effect is to slow down the boat or the motor has to do work harder to keep the boat going.

    3. Air resistance is the force exerted by air on the object in the opposite direction of its motion. Its effect on boat is same as the water resistance, it slows down the boat.

    4. Up-thrust is the force which acts on a object in the direction opposite to that of gravity. Up-thrust lift the object up. In the case of boat, Up-thrust is the weight of the water displaced by the boat.

Look! It’s the speed machine, speed boat.
It has a streamlined hull and body ensuring it has minimum water and air resistance. Its design leads to high up-thrust which enables it to carry heavy loads. With wings and a sharp bow this is the best boat ever, which slices the water like a knife. Due to its less resistive design its motor has to do less work and so is very efficient and economical.
It has comfortable seating and sufficient life jackets. This boat has all the safety features needed to keep you safe.
    Watch it go !
This dream boat is all yours for £499.99 !!!

  17. 1. A force is a strength or energy that is in a movement (example) when someone runs propulsion pushes them forward.
    2. Water resistance is a pushing force that tries to stop movement in water. So unless the boat has some sort of sharp bow it won’t move, just float.
    3. Up thrust is a pushing force that makes boats float in water, so without it boats would sink the second they get put in the water.
    4. Air resistance is a pushing force that hampers objects moving through the air. It tries to prevent the part the boat that is out of the water for moving.

Come and buy the teeth bow speedboat, the reason it has a teeth bow is: WATER RESISTANCE hardly works on the teeth bow. It has a round bottom so it can float efficiently and has two motors for propulsion and it only costs £89.99 .

  18. 1. A force is a energy or strength of a movement or a action.
2.water resistance affects by pushing force.
3.upthrust is a up force which doesn’t make the boat sink.
4.Air resistance is a force of energy and strength which gives speed.

Come and buy a speed boat which is qiuck and fast.It has a force which is upthrust so the speed boat doesn’t sink.It also has a force called air resistance so the boat has speed. The speed boat has a pushing force which is called water resistance. The speed boat has a force which is strength and enegry so the boat has a movement or a action.

  19. A force is a strength, which is a physical action or movement. It can be a pulling
or pushing force. Gravity is a type of force, as it’s a pulling force. Water resistance is a force that acts on water, it can slow objects down, reducing the affect of gravity. This affects the boat by making it go little slower,as it is a pulling force.
Up thrust is an upward force which acts in water, it acts on a object against gravity, and is why certain objects float. Up thrust affects the boat by not making it sink, as gravity is also working on it by not making it go in the air. This means both forces are balanced. Air resistance is a force, since it acts in the air, it can slow objects down when they are moving against it. It affects the boat by making it go slower because you have to slice through the air.
