Science: Classification of plants 🌱 🍃 🌳

This half term we have been learning about Carl Linnaeus scientific discovery of taxonomy.

Taking on the role of a confectionary story!
We were tasked to sort some of our favourite sweets using a dichotomous key.🍬

Taking on the role of a botanist!
We used this knowledge to explore our local area and use the process of elimination to identify different plants on our school grounds.

    I gained by learning about Carl Linnaeus and his scientific classifications.
    And how he was the father of taxonomy.
    I also gained by creating a dichotomous key about animals.

    I have gained by learning who Carl Linneaus is and how he is significant. He was a botanist, this is who studies plant life. From a botanist he built on his skills to become many other things.

    I have learnt that Carl Linnaeus is a botanist who classifies animals. Using dichotomous keys. Also, dichotomous keys are sorting objects, plants, shoes etc in a group, there are yes and no questions and the dichotomous keys separates the objects, plants, shoes and etc in the correct group.

    I have learnt in this lesson who Carl Linnaeus is and why he is significant (for his work in classifying animals). I have also been able to use a dichotomous key. I have learnt names of different types of leaves eg: white poplar, sweet chestnut and beech. I have created my own dichotomous chart too.
