Hi children!
Bonne Maman are running an exciting Science competition for children in Years 1, 2, 3 and 4. Taking part will help us develop our understanding of the different parts of flowering plants and also the stages of growth. Of course, we have the chance of winning some great prizes too!Β
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO?
You need to create your own artwork, inspired by the famous fruit portraits of the artist Giuseppe Arcimboldo. On an A4 piece of paper, create a picture on the theme of ‘Growing’, which is made up of fruit pictures.
You can create your fruit pictures by:
drawing
painting
taking and printing your own photographs, then using these to make a collage
Your pictures can feature fruit at any stage of the growth cycle (seed, leaf, flower, ripened fruit).Β
WHAT WILL THE JUDGES BE LOOKING FOR?
Entries that:
*use different types of fruit to form a picture
*are colourful and exciting to look at
*show the idea of ‘Growing‘
*are creative and imaginative
Think about how you are going to show the ideas of ‘Growing’. For example, your picture might show something that grows or something that helps plants to grow. What shapes and colours will you need for your picture?
*Look at all the different colours you can see in fruit.
*Look at fruit from different angles. What shapes can you see?
*Cut the fruit in half. How do the shapes change?
*What does the skin of the fruit look and feel like? Is it hairy, shiny, rough or smooth?
TOP TIPS
*Shade one side to make the fruit look solid.
*Use lines or dots to show the texture of the fruit.
*Leave a patch of the fruit blank to make it look shiny.
WHAT COULD WE WIN?
*Winning pupil: gardening equipment & personalised gardening goody bag
*Winning school: up to Β£800 worth of gardening equipment for the school to set up a gardening club
*2 runners up: personalised gardening goody bags
Miss Smith will also give a prize to Broad Heath’s best entries!
