# Science – May the Force be with you!

To all Year 3 scientists out there…

We will be studying the topic of ‘The Power of Forces’ this half term.

For your first task for week 1 – Could you find out the meaning of these words:-

1. Attract
2. Repel
3. Force
4. Twist
5. Gravity
6. Magnetism

The gravity

2. Miral Abdalla

1.Attract- cause to have a liking for.

2.Repel- drive or force back or away.

3.Force- is a pushing or a pulling upon an object.

4.Twist- cause to rotate around a stationary point turn.

5.Gravity- the force that attracts a body towards the centre
of the earth.

6-Magnetism- a physical phenomenon produced by the motion of electric charge.

• Mrs Kiani

Well done for your research Miral. So now can you guess when an apple falls to the ground which force pulls it towards the earth?

3. Lataya Jackson

Attract-is a physical force causing gravinational pull.

Repel-is the force that Push’s away.

Force- is a pushing or pulling element of movement.

Twist- is to turn or bend.

Gravity- is a physical force that attracts an objector body to the the centre of then earth.

Magnetism- is the power or force to attract for example iron had the power of magnetism.

• Mrs Kiani

Good girl Lataya. Which materials does a magnet attract?

4. Esa Khan

Magnetism is a class of physical phenomena that are mediated by magnetic fields. Electric currents and the magnetic moments of elementary particles give rise to a magnetic field, which acts on other currents and magnetic moments. Every material is influenced to some extent by a magnetic field.

• Mrs Kiani

Esa, do you actually understand the above? Please don’t just cut and paste, try and research and then write up in your own words.

5. Esa Khan

Receiving seven Oscar® wins, Gravity stars Academy Award® winners Sandra Bullock (The Blind Side) and George

• Mrs Kiani

Esa, what is this?

6. Esa Khan

a. To wind together (two or more threads, for example) so as to produce a single strand. b. To form in this manner: twist …
‎Twist – ‎Twist around – ‎Arm-twisting – ‎Untwisto
Attract – Attract means if two magnetic objects stick together and sometimes they make a clicking sound. If I put the north side of a magnet to a south side of another magnet it would attract.
Repel – Repel means if two magnets push away from eachother like if i put the north side of two magnets they push away and it’s the same with south and south.
Force – force means if I push something like a box force allows me to it .

• Mrs Kiani

This is much better Esa – well done!

Great Start Aryan, but remember what I said about finding the meanings of all the scientific words that I have listed?
