Children return to school Mon 8th April

I have written a Sonnet that uses Iambic Pentameter about us!

Have a read through – see if you can find any mistakes!

I thought it would be good for you to get the chance to think about your own poetry in the subsequent weeks and have a practise at a few lines.

My poem is overly affectionate! But I’ve done it deliberately to show how sonnets work. They are often love poems of exquisite beauty so the language should be one of affection.

When you’ve read my poem, have a go at writing 4 lines of your own poem about something that you care about.

Rules:

Lines 1 and 3 rhyme

Lines 2 and 4 rhyme

Each line contains exactly 10 syllables.

In Six blue we desire to reach our goals,

A team we’ve made, a bond that never dies,

We care and learn and give it with our souls,

We spend our time reaching up for the skies.

While it may seem that we learn but for a test,

More important things entwine in our lives,

Manners, kindness empathy invest,

In our children that will forever thrive.

We smile and laugh and celebrate success,

Spread warmth amongst our friends throughout the day,

To reduce pain, the hurt and all the stress,

Even if the skies above are so grey.

It pleases me to have to you confess.

That being in here with you is happiness

One response to “Sonnets”

  1. Nihit N.

“While it may seem that we learn but for a test”, “Manners, kindness empathy invest” and “That being in here with you is happiness” are all either 9 or 11 syllables instead of ten.
    This is my poem:
I like staying at home most of the time,
But sometimes I want to go outside,
I take a deep breath of fresh garden air,
Then I play before going back inside.
