Children return to school Mon 8th April

This half term we are reading the novel ‘Holes’ and we studied elements of the book on world book day.

Your task is to read the book in your own time also and complete the following challenges. We have a few copies of the book in school, the local libraries also have the books but if you can’t access the hard copy I have attached a link below.

Bronze: Make an advert for ‘Sploosh’
Your task is to read and understand what Sploosh is.
Using this information as well as your persuasion skills create a persuasive advert for the product ‘Sploosh’

-You must include a title, emotive language, rhetorical question, slogan, superlatives and a short paragraph explaining all the benefits- facts & opinions.

Silver: Create a leaflet the warden would give to the delinquent youth at Camp Green Lake.
Your task is to consider the wardens personality and create a welcome leaflet for the camp mates. This must introduce Camp Green Lake, an introduction to the employees- Mr Sir, Mr Pendanski etc. Share the daily tasks the boys have to undertake, a section on the rules and exaggerate the Wardens expectations of the boys- What is she really digging for?

-You must include title, subheadings, imperative verbs, emotive language, facts/statistics, captions with a diagram

*Gold: Create a misleading persuasive letter for Camp Green Lake
From what we have gathered already from World Book Day, Stanley had high expectations for the Camp he had been sent to, including greenery, a lake and fun camp activities. However, the camp is not quite what it seemed.
Your task is create a thorough letter persuading the government that Camp Green Lake is the right place to help young juveniles build character.
Think about how manipulative the Warden and Mr Sir can be-
ensure your letter is witty and cunning.

(Tip: Think about the extract from ‘Cider with Rosie’ which we read from your CGP books- think about the ways you can portray something so wonderful in a wicked and negative way)
