Year 3 Trip arrival to Hanford Close estimated at 5:00PM

Today we explored how different materials can change state of matter and then started to categorise them.

Within the class discussion we had a number of questions that we didn’t know the answer to – so here are some of the questions. Some of the answers may have more than on part to them.

  1. Is toothpaste a solid, a liquid or a gas?
  2. Is mercury a solid, a liquid or a gas?
  3. Is iron a solid a liquid or a gas?

4) Can iron ever be a gas?

5) Can everything be a solid, liquid or a gas if we heat or cool it appropriately?

Is toothpaste a solid, a liquid or a gas? Toothpaste is not a liquid or solid
Is mercury a solid, a liquid or a gas? It is a solid but if you melt it with be a liquid
Is iron a solid a liquid or a gas? Iron is a solid
Can iron ever be a gas? Yes iron could be a gas
Can everything be a solid, liquid or gas if we heat or cool it appropriately? Yes it is possibe

    1) Toothpaste is a liquid.

    2) Mercury is a liquid.

    3) Iron is solid.

    4) Iron can become gas because even though its a solid it becomes gas if you heat it up in very extreme temperatures.

    5) Yes, everything can be a solid, liquid or a gas by evaporating it heating it freezing it and melting it

  3. Tana I.

    Tooth paste is liquid
    Mercury is a liquid
Iron is a gas and solid
Yes it could be a solid liquid and gas

    1) Toothpaste is a mixture of solid and liquid. Scientists call this colloid.
    2) Mercury is a liquid and a solid.
    3) Iron is a solid and a liquid.
    4) Iron can be a gas.
    5) Yes, everything can be a solid, liquid or a gas by using the four main processes which are: melting, freezing, condensation and evaporation.

1)Is toothpaste a solid, a liquid or a gas? .It is a Non-Newtonian fluid means that it changes it’s viscosity depending on stress
    2)Is mercury a solid, a liquid or a gas?
Mercury is 50% solid and 50% gas.
3)Is iron a solid a liquid or a gas? An iron is solid
    4) Can iron ever be a gas? Yes it is melted
    5) Can everything be a solid, liquid or a gas if we heat or cool it appropriately? It could be

1 Toothpaste is neither solid or liquid or gas . Scientists say it’s a collid.
2 Mercury is actually a liquid so it not gas or solid.
    3 Iron is a solid.
4 Iron at a room temperature, it would had to be 5182 degree Celsius to be
Gas so technically is its true.
5 Not everything but maybe some can.
