The Swinging Sixties in 5 Blue!

The children in Year 5 have started an exciting new History topic this week – ‘Life in the 1960’s’. We began the unit by comparing life in the Post War period, thinking about politics, popular culture and family life. We discussed some of the most significant events of the 1960’s, and began to examine subcultures within society, such as mods, rockers and hippies, linking them to the shift in values.

1. How do you think the roles of men and women changed in the 1960s?

2. How would you describe the difference in clothing? What do clothes represent about people?

3. Describe the ‘Hippie’ culture?

4. Which British Values are beginning to be displayed during this era?

5. Name the top 3 inventions of the time?

Greater Depth:

How did society change between 1940 to 1960?

WHY did society change?

Reflecting on life today, has society changed again? (Why?)

Dunmi- Men and Women wore different types of clothes from a different part of time.
Nuha- The clothing in the 1960 ‘s was very vibrant, you could tell what groups they were in by looking at their clothing. You could tell who were hippie’s because they were wearing bright coloured clothes.
Ebenezer- The hippie’s were people who drove in camper vans and peace, love.
Hanfaa- I think the school value that is being showed is kindness.
