Thursday 21st May- Year 5 Home Learning: Topic

Good morning Year 5!

So, well done on completing your project! Your new tourist attraction for Stratford-Upon-Avon is a success, and that’s all down to the hard work you put in to research, plan, design and create it!

But, throughout this entire process, did any of you consider the possible impact on the animals? Well even if you did, a group of animal rights protesters are gathering outside your attraction! They are worried about your attraction treating animals badly, and taking advantage of innocent creatures who should be in their natural habitats instead of behind cages and glass.

Now, members of the media are arriving to interview the protesters and find out why they are outside your attraction. What do you think the protesters are saying about your attraction? Why are they there?

The media want to interview you about your attraction and the concerns the animal rights protesters have about it. How can you reassure the protesters and members of the public that your attraction is ethical towards the animals? What have you done to care for the animals in your attraction? Have you done anything to support animals elsewhere? E.g. charity contributions, breeding programmes etc.

Task 1: Plan your interview with the media. What are the key points you will say in response to the animal rights protesters’ concerns?

Task 2: Write your interview speech, including all the key points you planned to include. Remember a variety of vocabulary choices, interesting sentence openers, and be persuasive to win the protesters and public over. See a starting point idea below to get you thinking:

Good morning,

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to respond to the demonstrations outside my attraction. It is my intention to explain what we as a team have been doing to combat cruelty against animals and ensure that this attraction is ethical and supportive of its residents and the wider animal community.

First, I would like to make it clear that, like the protesters here today, we as a team despise animal cruelty of any kind. This is why we….

Remember to email your work to us so we can see.

  1. Good morning,

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to respond to the demonstrations outside my attraction. It is my intention to explain what we as a team have been doing to protect the animals inside my attraction. We clean water daily, feed them at least 3 times a day and some are not in water boxes they live under the bridge.

  2. Good morning,

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to respond to the demonstrations outside my attraction. First, I would like to make it clear that, like the protesters here today, we as a team despise animal cruelty of any kind. So people over here the animals in my attraction are safe we are taking more care of them than they need. We are feeding them, and also changing the water when it’s dirty. And we are putting them with their family. So their’s nothing to worry about in my attraction.

  3. Hi I know that you think animals aren’t safe in my attraction but think again in my attraction animals are getting fed and we are taking more care of them than they need because we are feeding them and we are putting them with their family so they don’t get sad so theirs nothing to worry about my attraction.

    • Ryan, again your work has no full stops, which means it does not make sense. Please rewrite this as you are capable of better! Also use the sentence start that Mr Mashford has provided for you :)

  4. Good morning,
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to respond outside my attraction.
I can assure all of you that, here at my aquarium centre, me and my staff
make sure that the tanks have fresh water, the fish have regular feeding times and the sea animals are attended to, and have the same care and
some have different feeding times. If we have any problems, we have
professionals on hand 24 hours a day.

    • Ooh really nice and formal and some creative points mentioned! Just a word of advice never say ‘me and my team’, the correct grammar would be ‘my team and i’ :)

  5. Good afternoon

First i would like go tell you that my staff are taking 100% care for the animals.😅 and we will treat them when they are hungry and when they want to play so don’t worry thank you
    Your sincerely sarina

    • Oh dear, I think your sentence that starts with ‘it is my intention’ is copied from Hishaam isn’t it? You have edited some of the rest.

Sarina, it is ok to look at what others have written to help you, in class we always have an example we write together. But you know I don’t like it when you copy my work word for word. You have to change it and look up words like intention that you might not understand.

  6. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to respond to the demonstrations outside my attraction. First, I would like to make it clear that, like the protesters here today, We as a team despise animal cruelty of any kind. This is why we treat all our animals with the same respect. All of our animals the right and same amount of food, water and supplies. We keep all of our snacks and drinks fresh so the animals don’t get sick and we have big area so our animals don’t get bored and uncomfortable because we’re taking care of the environment before anything bad happens to the wildlife. We never let any rubbish reach their mouth so we always keep it clean. We will let them out if they get old so they can go back to their family and friends. We are also here to save some endangered species,we are taking very special care for them so that they will survive which is another reason I’m going to let them go when they get old to spend the 1+ years in their home.

  7. Good afternoon,
Thanks for the opportunity to respond to the demonstrations outside my attraction. My team is always on tasks some of my team is going to work in the morning to night and the others are going to work at night and if anyone wants to become a member you have to pay and if anyone wants to know more then ask staff. If you want to give a rating please ask the staff for the rating form.

  8. If there are people protesting about animal rights at my attraction I would respond and say ‘our staff have been taking care of all the animals safely by feeding them and putting them in large fish tanks which will not harm the animals or kill them so there is no need to complain about the animals at my attraction’.

  9. Good afternoon,

First, I would like to make it clear that, like the protesters here today, we as a team despise animal cruelty of any kind. I will make sure none of our animals are hurt.We will make sure we provide them with enough food and water. We will not treat our animals like toys,we will show them the respect they deserve 💖.My staff will make sure they take care of the animals at all time, they will treat the animals with 100% care.👍

    • Very persuasive Inaaya. But I wonder, are you going to do anything to support animals worldwide who need it. I know that many zoos set up breeding programmes and provide support to animal reserves and preservation trusts around the world. Is this something you intend to do?

  10. First, I would like to make it clear that, like the protesters here today, we as a team despise animal cruelty of any kind.which is why we have hired a marine biologist to train all the staff how to look after there environment and all the different species of marine life

  11. First, I would like to make it clear that, like the protesters here today, we as a team despise animal cruelty of any kind.which is why we have hired a marine biologist to train all the staff how to look after there environment and all the different species of marine life we have. Also we support the sea life trust charity and pay them yearly. It can look after the ocean. It also has a education programme they will teach kids about nature.
    Kind regards,

  12. Good morning,
Thank you for letting me put my voice forward , my aquarium is a well looked after place . The fish will not be harmed as they are in a safe environment that means they will have fresh water , regular feeding times . My staff will give them 100% care . If the fish have any problems with their health we will get a specialist team to come in and check all of the fishes until the problem is solved . They are placed in tanks for your safety and for there well being . I hope you do take all of this information into consideration.

    • Hi Shivani,
Good effort. I like your ideas.
Just a couple of points to help you with your interview writing:
Be careful with your use of punctuation please. You need to structure your sentences carefully, using the correct punctuation.
Rather than the use of a comma in the first sentence, it would be even better if this was a full stop and you starting a new sentence after “Thank you for letting me put my voice forward”. Also, is there another point after “regular feeding times” or do you need ‘and’ in between? Some of your points are a bit short, so you could use conjunctions to link your ideas together, making your sentences a little bit longer.
I hope my feedback helps. Overall, the rest is really good and I am happy with the effort you have put into this. Well done!

    • Hi Zoya, hope your well. Great to hear that you have finished this. Can you share part of your interview on the blog? Email your work to us please. Also complete the Maths blog I have set for you. Thank you.

    • Sabrin imagine there are protesters outside you attraction. Protesters are concerned about well being of animals in your attraction.
Media is out there. Media (reporters) want to interview you.
Task is to write your respond to media.
You can include how your staff looks after the animals and they are not harmed.
Please let me know if this was any help to you.

  13. Good morning,
I don’t know if anybody will be worried on the impact of animals because I just have cats and dogs and cats and dogs in inviroment is just peoples homes!
However if we found them on the street, it’s for the better because they might not have had enough food or water to survive .
So I don’t think people will be worried on the impact!

    • What is your attraction Lexi? In a speech you usually need to welcome the press to your attraction, explain its purpose and then assuage any concerns.
Can you also check this spelling: inviroment

  14. Good morning,

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to respond to the demonstrations outside my attraction. All of our animals have the right amount of food and water. The are not locked in cages they are free to fly around the room.
