Thursday 9th July- Year 3 Home Learning- SMSC: what do Christians do to show their faith?

Hi Year 3,

Today in SMSC we are going to make progress by bringing together everything that we have learnt over the past few weeks.

What do you know about Christianity?

How do Christians show their beliefs?

Watch the video below. It is about a woman called Rosa Parks.

Rosa was a Christian. The following parts of the bible may have inspired her.

 ‘There is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male or female, for all of you are one in Christ Jesus.’ Galatians 3: 28
 ‘Do to others what you would have them do to you.’ Matthew 7: 12
 ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’ Matthew 19: 19
 ‘God created human beings in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.’ Genesis 1: 27

BRONZE

Write 5 questions you would ask Rosa Parks, the bus driver or the man on the bus.

Try thinking of questions that address the characters’ feelings and motivation, especially why, as a Christian, Rosa Parks felt it was important to stand up for her rights.

SILVER

Write a diary entry from the perspective of Rosa Parks.

What was she feeling? What was she feeling? Why did she do what she did? How did she feel afterwards?

GOLD

Write an interview with one of the characters set in modern
times, as if it happened today.

Do people think that the man on the bus or the bus driver would now regret their actions?
Do they think the rules were wrong? Would Rosa Parks think that she behaved correctly?
What would she think about racism in the world today?

Christianity is the largest world religion by number of adherents around 2.4 billion. Christians generally believe Jesus to be son of God, the second person of the Trinity.
There are a few basic beliefs of Christianity:
belief in God the Father, Jesus as the son of God, the Holy Spirit
The death, descent into hell, resurrection and ascension of Christ
The holiness of the Church and the communion of saints
Christ’s second coming, the Day of Judgement and salvation of the faithful.

  7. Safa K.

Today was a important day for me I did refused to give up my bus seat to a white lady. It had been a long day at work and I was tired but that’s not why I didn’t give up my seat. I was upset about the unfairness of the rules I wanted to be treated equally to white people .

    1. Miss Millar

Great stuff. Can you think about why this would be important in regards to Rosa’s Christianity?

Rosa Parks: Yes, I was really confused.
Interviewer Aaminah: Now, on the bus incident.
    Rosa Parks: OK
Interviewer Aaminah: Why did you refuse to give up your seat?
Rosa Parks: I refused to give up my seat because I believed that everyone should be treated equally.
Interviewer Aaminah: Why did the police officer fine you?
Rosa Parks: They fined me because I refused to give up my seat.
Interviewer Aaminah: This is all for today. Bye.

    1. Mrs Begum

Great questions Aaminah . Do you think it was fair to fine her ? Explain your answer.

      1. Aaminah A.

No. I don’t think it was fair to fine her because she only wanted to sit in her seat.

Christianity is one the world’s biggest religion, with about 2.2 billion followers worldwide. It is based on the teachings of Jesus Christ who lived in the Holy Land 2,000 years ago.
Through its missionary activity Christianity has spread to most parts of the globe.
Christians are people who believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and who follow his teachings and those of the Christian churches that grew up after his death.
Christians believe that Jesus rose from the dead and appeared to his disciples (followers) to show everyone that there is another life with one, eternal, loving God.

    Christian festivals
The most important Christian festivals are: Lent, Easter and Christmas.

Do people think that the man on the bus or the bus driver would now regret their actions?
I think they do because the people who stood up against the rules made the bus company loose money for over a year.

Do they think the rules were wrong?
The rules are wrong because even if people are different coloured they should still be treated the same.

Would Rosa Parks think that she behaved correctly?
I think she would because she did not fight; she only refused to give up her seat. This made people angry that she was taken off the bus by the police and taken to court. They all want to be treated the same as white people.

What would she think about racism in the world today?
I think she would be happy that there are changes happening and people are standing up for themselves, but there is still racism is around and so she will not be completely satisfied.
