TIKTOK – Advice

BROAD HEATH DO NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE AT THE SCHOOL TO USE TIKTOK!!! IT IS NOT AGE APPROPRIATE FOR ANY BH PUPILS.

TikTok  is one of the most downloaded apps in the world. The video-sharing platform can provide hours of entertainment and encourages users to make their own short ‘pop-style’ videos which they can edit and share with the world.

With between 500 million and 1 billion active monthly users worldwide, TikTok is absolutely huge. There’s a good chance that even if you haven’t heard of it, your children have. It has been designed with the young user in mind. The platform allows users to record and upload bite-sized looping videos of themselves lip-syncing and dancing to popular music or soundbites, often for comedic effect, which can then be further enhanced with filters, emojis and stickers.

But is TikTok safe? Should parents be concerned about what their children are viewing? And could children be at risk from other users? Despite the seemingly harmless nature of the app, it is rated 12+ on the app store and users don’t always post age appropriate content. With this in mind National Online Safety have created a useful guide this #WakeUpWednesday to help parents and carers understand exactly what TikTok is all about.
