Today in science we were discussing consumers and producers.

We had a conversation about venus fly traps. What are they consumers, producers or both?

Plants are generally producers because they use photosynthesis to create energy… But what if the plant is able to trap/kill flies? Does it therefore become a consumer?

Your Task:

Write on the blog a definition for a ‘consumer’and a ‘producer’. Then, is a venus fly trap a consumer, a producer or both?

You will need to use the internet to research this.

Consumer-A person/animal which eats or kills an animal and eats them
Producer-A plant that grows something or produces eatable food
A fly trap is both a producer and a consumer, because it kills the flies and then the spiders eat/trap the flies. Therefore a fly trap is both a producer and consumer.

Consumer: A plant or thing/living thing that is able to consume types of food
Producer: The opposite of a Producer/ a object that can’t eat.
The Venus Flytrap is a Producer because it instead of eating the insect, it decomposes it into energy for itself.

    Work:
What are they consumers, producers or both?
It gets the energy from the sun and use to create simple, to get the energy they eat plants and other animal.
But what if the plant is able to trap/kill flies? Does it therefore become a consumer?
Venus fly’s and trap, Venus uses sweet to smell.

I will be writing it in my book.

Consumer is a person or a thing that eats or uses something.Producer is a person or a thing that makes or causes something.A Venus flytrap is a producer because it does not eat the insects but it does decompose them.

  5. Tana I.

A Venus fly trap is a producer because keep food for themselves and they keep it there eating it

  6. Kanishka P.

It is a consumers because when the Venus flytrap close and there is a fly in it it will die.
It does because it will die if you leave it there for a few minutes.

Consumer is a person or a thing that eats or uses something.
Producer is a person or a thing that makes or causes something.
A Venus flytrap is a producer because it does not eat the insects but it does decompose them.

  8. Ayaan M.

A producer is plants which grow food and produce it.

Consumers are objects in the food chains of animals.

A venus fly trap because it actually doesn’t eat the flies.

  9. Oluwaduminu S.

    Consumer – A creature that eats meats/plants.
Producer – A creature that grows from absorbing the sun which scientifically called photosynthesis .
A Venus flytrap is technically a producer because it doesn’t eat the fly itjust trap’s them so yeah basically.

A consumer is a person or thing that eats or uses something. A producer is a supplier that gives us food. A venus flytrap is a producer because it does not really eat the fly, it decomposes (make or become rotten; decay or cause to decay) them and uses their chemicals like fertilizer.

A Venus Flytrap is a producer.
Producers create food for themselves and also provide energy for the rest of the ecosystem. Any green plant, like a tree or grass, as well as algae and chemosynthetic bacteria, can be producers. Consumers are organisms that need to eat to obtain energy fun fact: a fly trap does not actually eat flies.

Both because when they eat flies they die to make energy.
