  1. 1) “her lane” means that it was Jess’s lane because she always swam in that lane.
    2) I think that Jess loves swimming because the text says “To be deprived of swimming would be like a perverse kind of drowning”. This means that Jess feels like swimming is an enjoyable type of drowning.
    3) From the text, I know that Jess loves swimming because the text says “To be deprived of swimming would be like a perverse kind of drowning”.
Jess also doesn’t like a lot of people to be around her and she likes to concentrate because the text says “But she did grumble; … Another quarter of an hour and it would be unbearable.”.

  2. 1. Two words that suggest that everyone understood that the space belonged to Jess is ‘her lane’ because it belongs to her it is her lane.

    2. ‘To be deprived of swimming would be like a perverse kind of drowning’
This shows that Jess will feel nervous and scared.

    3. I think that Jess is a confident girl in her swimming but is a bit shy in front of groups of people. I have inferred this from the text.

  3. 1. Two words that suggest that everyone understood that the space was hers are accept and . I know this because in the text it says “Sometimes if she forced herself to keep swimming up and down without stopping and swerving ,the other users of the pool seemed by some collective telepathy to accept the space as hers.”
    2. “To be deprived of swimming would be like a perverse kind of drowning”
This shows that Jess has got a real love to swimming and would never want it taken away from her.
    3. I think Jess is a really sporty person as she loves to swim and she said in the text “ to be deprived of swimming would be like a perverse kind of drowning.

  4. 1) Two words that suggest that everyone know it is Jess’ space are “ Her lane “.
    2) The feelings about Jess swimming are either she is confident at swimming and if she had ever stoped it for like a month she could think she might drown or that she is confident at swimming but she hasn’t gained much skills for a long time so she might think she will drown .
    3) I think Jess is a nice and caring girl however when she meets people that are new or if she is in public she will be shy. I think the because she is not playing with anyone in the pool she is just swimming laps up and down so in the pool she could be so serious about swimming .

I have tried my best 🙂.

    • I agree Shivani. You have tried your best. Well done for challenging yourself! I agree she is a confident swimmer and is serious about her swimming . Keep up the the good work.😊
