TUESDAY Green/Excellent/Terrific – Year 4 – To be able to use division and multiplication skills to calculate fractions of amounts

Solve these calculations involving fractions. Use a whiteboard to show your working out.

Remember RUCSAC and you will need to do two steps!

First, find the answer to the first part of the calculation.  Secondly, solve the second part of the calculation then make your comparison.

Challenge:

1) If I had 3/8 of £64 would it be more than 2/5 of £120?

2) Ibrahim won £40 on the lottery. He generously gave 1/4 of his winnings to his sister and 3/8 to his son. Who did he give more money to?

3) Mum gave her two sons £20 pocket money. Sam spent 2/4 of his on a t-shirt, Dan spent 3/5 on a lego set. Who has more of their pocket money remaining?

  1. Well done children. You have worked hard. However, some of you have made calculation errors- so keep practising those times tables! Then check where you have made mistakes. :)
