Hello year 4! I hope everybody is staying safe and well. Yesterday we looked at an information text.
Informational text is nonfiction writing, written with the intention of informing the reader about a specific topic. … They are written using special text features that allow the reader to easily find key information and understand the main topic.
Today we will learn more about the features of information texts and identify them in 3 example texts. Here are the non-fiction books I have chosen:
What kind of information would you expect to find in each one?
Which one would you prefer to read? Why?
First of all copy this list of features into your homework book. Leave a line between each one so that you have space to write an example for each. Like this:
Next I would like you to go to https://www.educreations.com/ and click ‘student sign up’. Type in the class code WUEDNLU to join the online class! (it’s free)
You will have to make an account- PLEASE ENTER YOUR REAL NAME so I know who is accessing the work (write your username and password in the front of your homework book so you don’t forget it!)
This is an app that allows me to share video lessons with you- let’s give it a try! Please comment below if you have problems finding the video.
Then watch the video called ‘Annotating an information text’.
Here are two texts for you to annotate. Don’t forget to record an example of each feature in your homework book! (the texts are also on www.educreations.com/ if this photo is unclear on your device).
a) Which text did you find easier to read? Why?
b) Do you think these texts could be improved? How?
c) Tell me one new thing you learned from one of these texts.
Can’t find the video? Once you have created an account your screen should have a Classes button on the top bar. Click that and then click Year 4 Broad Heath. Then you should be able to see my videos like this:
