Wednesday 3rd June: Year 4W Entrepreneur Week – Product Design!

Hello year 4! Yesterday, you learned all about what it takes to be a great entrepreneur. You looked at some examples of people who have baked their way to success and came up with a business plan of your own. Today we will be focusing on a key part of your baking business…THE PRODUCT.
Product: Something that is manufactured (made) for sale.

Today you will be designing your cake product. You will need to consider the market research you collected yesterday. What is your family’s favourite type of cake? Will you be making cupcakes? or one big cake? What will your cake(s) look like? How will you make them appealing to buyers? The answers to these questions need to inform your cake design today.

DAY 2: TASK 1
For the first task, we will be taking inspiration from The Great British Bake Off! Watch the clips below and answer the questions.
1) What makes a cake a success? (What did the judges like about these cakes?)
3) How did the bakers make their cakes look appealing and exciting?
4) What will be the star ingredient in your cake?
5) Why is flavour important?
6) How will you make your cake(s) stand out?

DAY 2: Task 2 – Design Your Cake!
Draw and label your cake design- remember it has to look attractive and include information about the key flavours you would like the buyer to enjoy! Have a look at the pictures below for some ideas:

DAY 2: TASK 3 – Marketing: Cake Sale Poster!
Okay, so you have your product design, now you need to ADVERTISE! One of the best ways to do this is to create a colourful poster to attract people to your cake sale. Imagine your cake(s) are going to be sold at the school summer fair. You can draw or use word or pic-collage to create your cake sale poster. Remember, you need to include the following key information:

    Flavouring is important as taste , it is utmost important , you want to create a cake that people will love, you can use selective food flavours, which can add to your butter creams, syrups, cake batter and filling to make extra taste.

    • Hajrah, I do not think this is your best effort. Write in full sentences using capital letters. Your star ingredient should be the main flavour in your cake. Complete task two so that you have a design to follow tomorrow when you are baking.

    1] The judges liked the taste of all of the cakes and the looks of most of them.
    3] The cakes looked appealing by the vibrant colours of the icing and most of them had lots of detail.
    4] My star ingredient in my cake would be Nutella.
    5] Flavour is important in a cake because if there is no flavour there will be no taste to it which would make taste more like plain bread.
    6] I will make my cake stand out by making it look as neat as I can.

    TASK 2 is on a paper and I will send a picture.

    TASK 3 is also on pic-collage and I will send a picture.

    Creativevity , effort and taste !
    The judges liked the cake because the contestants put a lot of imagernation to them 💕.
    They made there cakes look different to what it would taste like an illusion cake.
    My star indgdient would be icing an sprinkles .
    I’d use my imagination to make a really good and unique design.

    They made the cakes exciting by making their cake look like something else (and illusion).

    The star ingredient in my cake will be strawberry.
    5) Why is flavour important?
    Flavour is important because if there was no flavour,then the cake would be plain and flavourless.
    6) How will you make your cake stand out?
    I will make my cake stand out by making it look bright and making the taste fresh and sweet. Also there is a choice,cupcake or cake!

    I will use Picollage and send it.

    2)What the judges liked about the cakes:

    It was quite effective and gave it a shine.Also lovely design.

    Likes the dripping effect,there’s quite a shine and the texture of the cake is lovely.Very light.

    Steph:
    Beautifully done.
    Very elegant and cherry jam is done well too!

    3)The bakers made their cakes looked apealing and exciting by making their design look nice and presentation is wonderful.

    4)The star ingredient in my cake is chocolate and chocolately icing!

    5)My flavour is important because it makes it delicious.

    6)I will make my cupcakes stand out by designing it wonderfully and decorating it nicely too.

    Task 2:
    1)I have designed my cake and will email it to you!
    I teally want to send it on Padlet but I can’t because everytime I take a picture is says the page was reloaded and when I try again it repeats!
    And says this website is crashed!
    I tried on the I pad my dad’s phone but still wouldn’t work!

    3. How did the bakers make their cakes look appealing and exciting? They made it look exciting by really take their time on the decoration and the how long it has been in the oven and making sure it’s not burnt or anything.
    4. What will be the star ingredient in your cake? The star ingredient in my cake is melted chocolate around the cake to make it look detailed!!
    5. Why is flavour important? The flavour is important because it will just be plain and boring and it will just feel something baked in your moutth.
    6. How will you make your cake(s) stand out? My cake will stand out by making it look very different to others and take my time on it and NEVER rushing.

    • Great Mikolaj! Chocolate is a good choice! What flavour could you add to the chocolate to make it taste nicer? I look forward to seeing your design.

    • Chocolate is a good ingredient to have, maybe add a flavour to it, orange, mint? Adeena If we didn’t add flavour to something how would it taste? When you say about ‘Soft in your mouth’ This is more about the texture not flavour. What would you need to add to it to make it stand out?
