Children return to school Mon 8th April

What have we been up to in RW this week?

Our topic for this half term is ‘Fantastic Lights’. We will be learning about dark and light, seasonal changes and celebrations. We will also continue with our PSHE work and focus on ‘Getting On’.😊

Communication and Language- To listen and talk about a Diwali story.

We shared a story called ‘Dipal’s Diwali’. In this story we learnt about how Hindu’s celebrate Diwali and different things they do to get ready for their Diwali celebration.

Literacy- To write a list of jobs to get ready for Diwali.

After listening to the story ‘Dipal’s Diwali’ we were able to think about different things Hindu’s do to prepare for Diwali. The children used their phonic knowledge to write their lists.

Literacy – To read and match words.

The children used phonetic knowledge to segment and blend CVC words. They then matched these to the correct picture.

Maths – To compare sets and say which has more.

Maths – To say which is more than and which is fewer than.

Maths – To begin to use positional language correctly.
The children created an obstacle course and developed their positional language when directing their friends around it.

Understanding of the world To understand how Diwali is celebrated.

The children developed an understanding of how Diwali is celebrated by Hindu’s.

PSED/SEAL– To work together as a group and try new ideas.

The children worked in small groups to play different games. They developed the idea of how working together as a group to try new ideas is a good thing and can help.

Expressive Art/Design– To create a firework picture/Diwali art.

The children developed their creative skills when creating a firework picture. Some of the children chose to create their own rangoli pattern using lots of different colours.

SMSC-To know why it is important to help others.

We learnt about Children in Need and Pudsey Bear. We learnt about what the charity Children in Need do and thought about how this makes us feel.
