Hi Year 1,
Today we are going to have another look at our addition and subtraction fact families. Yesterday we used part-whole models. Today we are using the bar model. Addition is the opposite of subtraction. We call this the ‘inverse’. We can use the same 3 numbers to create 2 addition calculations and 2 subtraction calculations.

THINGS TO REMEMBER
*Only use the 3 numbers you are given.
*When adding, it doesn’t matter which way round the numbers go BUT the answer must be the biggest number.
*When subtracting, the biggest number must ALWAYS come first.
